Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Alois G. Stommes, age 98, who died Sunday at Quiet Oaks Hospice House. Entombment will be in the St. Boniface Parish Cemetery.

A visitation for Al will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.  Parish Prayers will be at 4:00 p.m., and the Fr. Pierz Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights will stand guard from 4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Thursday one hour prior to service in the Church Narthex.

Al was born in St. Nicholas, MN to John and Mary (Dockendorf) Stommes.  He married Rose C. Geers on June 28, 1949 in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond.  Al was a medic in the U.S. Army Air Corps for 3.5 years during WWII, in Europe.  He started his Creamery Management career in Cold Spring and managed several different creameries throughout Central Minnesota.  After his retirement in 1983, he and Rose returned to Cold Spring.  Al enjoyed fishing, singing, visiting with family and friends and volunteering at the St. Cloud VAMC.  He was a member of St. Boniface Parish, Cold Spring American Legion and VFW, Fr. Pierz Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Cold Spring Maennerchor, and Catholic Order of Foresters.

Survivors include his children, Ken (Mary), Wally (Diane), Cathy (John) Clapp, Marguerite “Peggy” (Jerry) Losinski, David; brothers, Ervin, Roman, Eugene, Elmer, John, Jerome; sister, Margaret Torborg; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose (2012); daughter, Anita Noska (2015); granddaughter, Tamara (1992); siblings, Marie Kuechle and Alfred Stommes.
