Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 18, 2017 at Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Rockville, MN for Alvina Theresa Birk, age 93, who died Monday at Assumption Home in Cold Spring, Minnesota.  Final resting place will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.  Parish Prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary lead by the Infant of Prague Mission Group and the Christian Women.  Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. -10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Alvina was born on September 1, 1923 in Bagley, Minnesota to Peter and Margaret (Bauer) Thul. She married William “Bill” Birk on November 27, 1946 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring. Alvina was a homemaker. She loved to play cards, baking, cooking and watching the Minnesota Twins.  Alvina was an advocate for her family, selfless giver, and loved spending time with each of them. She was a woman of great faith who belonged to Christian Woman, and Infant of Prague Mission Group both of  Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church.  She was also an advocate of the Poor Clares.
 
Survivors include her children, Dave (Marilyn), Allan (Marcia), Diane (Jim) Browning, Karen (Mike) Hunstiger and Michele Birk (Jack); son-in-law, Vance Porwoll; siblings, Rosemary Ruprecht, Cecille Schramel, Mercedes (Al) Udermann, Laverne (Ralph) Torborg, Eldred (Joanne) Thul, and Virginette Donaldson; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 1 due in October.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill; daughter, Mary Porwoll; siblings, Lawrence (Louise) Thul, Elmer (Thelma) Thul, Elizabeth “Betty” Preusser; brother-in-law, Clarence Schramel, and Lawrence Ruprecht.

The family would like to thank the staff at Assumption Nursing Home for taking great care of Alvina.
