Jaxon Paul Froehle, Infant

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday January 3, 2017 at St. Boniface Catholic Church for Jaxon Paul Froehle, infant son of Mike and Lori (Hansen) Froehle.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00p.m., Monday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.  Arrangements are with Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.

Survivors include his parents; grandparents, Ron & Dolores Froehle and Marvin & Donna Hansen; uncles & aunts, Deb & Ken Janssen, Cathy & Bill Stromberg, Molly Schlangen (Leroy Holthans), Ben & Dede Hansen, Randy Hansen (Andrea Rothstein) and Brian Hansen (Jessica Boden) and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by two infant siblings.

 

Thomas “Blue” Harren, age 62
Cold Spring
September 23, 1954 – December 21, 2016

Thomas “Blue” Harren passed away peacefully at his home in Cold Spring on December 21, 2016.  He was born on September 23, 1954 to Austin (“Doc”) and Mary Harren.  Blue graduated from high school at ROCORI, and graduated from St. Cloud Technical College with a degree in drafting.  He started his career as a draftsman at Brown Boveri, and went on to work for more than 20 years as a draftsman at the Cold Spring Granite Company.   Blue and his wife, Deborah Frank, met in 1978, were married August 25, 1979, and had three daughters.  He had been a member of the Cold Spring Lions Club and had served on the St. Boniface Home and School Board. 

Blue enjoyed ice fishing, listening to his music loud, camping and campfires, sitting in the warm sun, working out, following his active children, welcoming the addition of his grandchildren, and enjoying 3 o’clock on the lake with a beer.  After Blue was diagnosed at the young age of 27 with Multiple Sclerosis, he and Deb made the decision that they would live life as if he didn’t have the disease for as long as they could, and fought the effects of the disease when the time came.

He is survived by his wife, Deb, and their children Jessica Jacobson (Jason), Jaclyn Wiechmann (Adam), and Hailey Hollenhorst (Bubba); his six grandchildren, his mother, Mary, his siblings, Sheryl Stewart (Frank), Mary Neisen (David), Jean Birk (Mike), Greg (Sue), Joe (Ann), and Karla Odell and his mother-in-law, Evelyn Frank. 

He is preceded in death by his father, Austin (“Doc”), his father-in-law, Jerome Frank, his brothers-in-law, Lee Frank, Dave Engelman, and John Odell, and his sister-in-law Barb Frank.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Thomas “Blue” Harren, age 62.  Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 26, 2016 at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.  Visitation will continue from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m., Tuesday morning at the church.

Blue’s family is deeply grateful for all the care, love and support received over the years from St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud Home Healthcare, St. Cloud Medical Group, Cold Spring Assumption Home, Hilltop Nursing Home, Cold Spring Police Department, Cold Spring Rescue, Gold Cross and Stearns County Sherriff’s Department.

 

Ivan J. Arnold, age 81
Cold Spring
December 5, 1935 – December 18, 2016

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 7th at 10:00 a.m, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church at 1000 Red River Ave. North in Cold Spring, MN. A reception will follow at the church.   Arrangements are with Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring.

Ivan and Patty enjoyed 57 wonderful years of marriage.  He enjoyed a career as a Tax Assessor for Carver County.

Ivan is survived by his wife, Patty; daughter and son-in-law Libby and Dave Bakken; daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Paul Wolff; grandchildren: Ally Bakken, Matt, Bakken and Jacob Wolff; Sister June McCarthy; nephew Jeff McCarthy and family; niece Jan Dickson and family; Sister in-law Betty Bagley and niece Cathy Ore and family.

Elvin “Smiley” Lieser, age 82
St. Martin
April 28, 1934 – December 13, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2016 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin, MN for Elvin “Smiley” Lieser, age 82, who died Tuesday at his home surrounded by his family.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2016 at the St. Martin Parish Hall in St. Martin.  Parish Prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary with the St. Martin Fire Department, St. Joseph Society and Catholic United Financial.  Visitation will continue from 11:00 – 1:30 p.m. Saturday morning at the parish hall.

Elvin was born in Zion Township, MN to Berthold and Arcella (Lenz) Lieser.  He married Elnora Schaefer on June 20, 1956 in the St. Martin Catholic Church, St. Martin, MN.  Elvin was a farmer and self-employed at Lieser Masonry for 50 years and was on the Board of Directors for the St. Martin National Bank.  Elvin loved ice cream, baseball, fishing, bowling, softball, deer hunting, auctions, coffee and dice.  He was a charter member of the St. Martin Fire Department, played for St. Martin Baseball team for 25 years and was a lifetime fan.  Elvin was also a member of St. Joseph Society, Catholic United Financial and St. Martin Parish.
 
Survivors include his wife, Elnora; children, Donald Lieser, Ladonna (Paul) Rothstein, Carl (Ruth) Lieser; siblings, Vicky Hartmann, Marion (Stanley) Olmscheid, Anna (Leroy) Patrick, Verna (Norb) Kalthoff, Sister Jean Lieser, Dorothy Welle, Irene Bertram, Ralph (Sylvia) Lieser, Willie (Deanna) Lieser; sisters-in-law, Pat Carstens, Norine Lieser; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronny Lieser, Joey Lieser; brothers-in-law, Alvin “Bub” Hartmann, Junior Welle, Duane Bertram; granddaughter, Kim Lieser; grandson, Joseph Lieser and great-grandson, Isaac Lieser.

Gerald “Muggsie” Blonigen, age 84
St. Martin
December 8, 1932 – December 8, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2016 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin, MN for Gerald “Muggsie” Blonigen, age 84, who died Thursday at Lakeview Ranch in Dassel.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Gerald was born in St. Martin, MN to Leo and Julia (Sinclair) Blonigen.  He married Jacqualine Palumbo on July 19, 1958 in St. Paul.  Gerald served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He owned and operated Blonigen and Sons, and later worked for TKI Incorporated for 12 years.  Gerald served on the Board of Directors and later became President of the St. Martin Bank from 1982-2012.  He was the first Fire Chief in St. Martin, played St. Nicholas in St. Martin for many year and played baseball and softball.  Gerald loved to sing, garden, fish, spend time in nature and his dogs.
 
Survivors include his children, Kevin (Joan) Blongien, Kelly (Andrew) Swartzentruber; sister-in-law, Pat Blonigen; grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Berg, Joshua (Trista) Klaphake, Cortney Minette, Kailee Schaeffer, Logan Swartzentruber, Trent and Travis Blonigen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie (2011); siblings, Cyril Blonigen, Jerome Blonigen, Clarice Lanz, Franices Blonigen, Lorraine Klesney, Donna Mae Memke, Virgl Blonigen, Mary Lou Blonigen, and Charles Blonigen.

Nancy V. Perry, age 75
Cold Spring, MN
April 8, 1941 – December 6, 2016

A Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2016 at Peace Lutheran Church in Cold Spring, MN for Nancy V. Perry who died Tuesday at Quiet Oaks Hospice surrounded by her family.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Arrangements are with Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring, MN.

Nancy was born in Willmar, MN to William and Helen (Rasmussen) Johnson.  She graduated from St. Cloud State University in 1962 with a degree in elementary education.  She married Neil Perry on December 27, 1964 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar.  Nancy taught 2nd grade for four years before staying home to raise a family.  Nancy loved gardening, raising tomatoes, quilting, reading biographies, water aerobics and traveling with her family to waterparks.  She encouraged her grandchildren to take an interest in music.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Neil; children, Steve (Amy), Stuart (Lissa) and Maren (Derek) Slickman; mother, Helen Johnson; grandchildren, Emily, Anna, Laura, Eli and Jaden; and siblings, Susan (Tom) Amacher, Bill (Lorie) Johnson and Sarah (Kevin) Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Johnson.

Hannelore I. Baker, age 70
Cold Spring
January 17, 1946 – November 29, 2016

A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 3, 2016 at River of Life Assembly of God Church in Cold Spring for Hannelore I. Baker, age 70, who died Tuesday at Assumption Home in Cold Spring.  Burial will be in the MN State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

A gathering of relatives and friends from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Saturday morning at the church.

Hannelore was born in Stuttgart, Germany to Max and Ilse (Kraft) Lipp.  She came to the United States in 1963 and settled in Central MN.  She liked flowers, feeding the birds, and helping other people.  She was dedicated to helping members of the Military and Veterans.
 
Survivors include her husband, Tom; son, Robert (Tuksu) Wolf; step-children, Ron Baker, Kris Baker, Dawn Marie Rogosheske, Kelly Severson; godmother, Erika; grandchildren, Katie, Heidi, and Rob, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Kathy (Wolf) Schultz.

Karen Jenniges, age 65
Wanda, MN
March 30, 1951 - November 26, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial for Karen Jenniges, 65, of Wanda, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Wanda.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.  on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at the church in Wanda.  Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.  Interment will follow the service at St. Mathias Catholic Cemetery in Wanda.

Karen was born on March 30, 1951.  She was adopted as a baby from the St. Paul Orphanage and grew up in a loving family in Watkins, MN.  She graduated in 1969 from the Eden Valley – Watkins High School.  In 1970, she was married to Tom Ruprecht.  The couple had three beautiful children:  Jeremy, Chad and Tanya.  They divorced in 1976.  Karen and her children moved to Wanda in 1981.  She had many jobs over the years including bartending, cooking, waitressing, nursing, painting and decorating.  She loved most of them.  Karen and her family owned and operated the Southside Bar & Grill in Wanda for 6 ½ years making lots of new friends.  She married her best friend, Nick Jenniges, in 1990.  They continued to farm near Wanda.

Karen collected a lifetime of great friends who were always there for her.  She loved spending time with her family and friends; cooking, all crafts, card making, scrapbooking and decorating, deck parties and happy hours.  She was a four year Council Woman for the City of Wanda. She grilled hamburgers for over 30 years for ball tournaments and volunteered for many jobs.  She cooked and served Memorial Day Dinner at the Wanda Legion for 20 years donating all proceeds to the Legion in memory of her son Jeremy Ruprecht who was an Army Veteran.

Karen died on Saturday, November 26, 2016, under the care of Hospice at her home in Wanda.  She is survived by her husband Nick Jenniges, son Chad Ruprecht, daughter Tanya Hunter, grandchildren Jaymee Ruprecht, Brandi Ruprecht, Landon Evans, Tanner Ruprecht, Ariel Johnson, Desi (and Dave) Morrison and Amber Anderson, great-grandchildren Bentley Hultquist and Aiden Mude, Poppy, Brynnlee and Jori Morrison, brother Steve (and Deb) Vossen, their children Addie, Brian and Ashley, brothers-in-law Rick (and Carol) Jenniges, Jerry Jenniges, Bill (and Melissa) Jenniges, Jim (and Dawn) Jenniges, sisters-in-law Anne (and Joe) Williams, Helen (and Mark) Guetter, Betsy (and Tom) Holm, Patty (and Gary) Peterson, Mary (and Brad) Eggersdorfer and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents  Leo and Lucille Vossen, her oldest son, Jeremy Ruprecht, and in-laws Austin and Susan Jenniges.

Lorraine A. Arnold, age 90
Cold Spring
February 22, 1926 – November 22, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be 3:00 p.m., Monday, November 28, 2016 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Lorraine A. Arnold, age 90, who died Tuesday at Cherrywood Advanced Living in Richmond.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.  Christian Women will pray a rosary at 3:00 p.m, parish prayers will be at 8:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue Monday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lorraine was born in Richmond, MN to Bernard “Ben” and Mary “Mayme” (Torborg) Feldhege.  She married Bernard “Bud” Arnold on June 15, 1948 in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond.  Lorraine devoted her life to family and faith and took pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed playing cards, reading, and baking, especially her delicious pies.  Lorraine was a member of St. Boniface Parish and Christian Women.
 
Survivors include her children, Mary (Pete) Hansen of Richmond, Ruth (Melvin) White of Hoover, AL, Jim (Kelly) Arnold of St. Cloud, Tom (Dana) Arnold of Burnsville, Mark (Brenda) Berg-Arnold of St. Joseph, Sue Arnold of St. Cloud and Sharon (Jerry) Wenner of Richmond; sister, Vi (Rich) Fink of Richmond; sisters-in-law, Mariella Arnold of Kimball and Doris Arnold of Clear Lake; 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud (May 6, 2001); and infant daughter, Jean Marie (1960).

Bernice L. “Bernie” Decker, age 88

February 5, 1928 – November 18, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Bernice “Bernie” Decker, age 88, who died Friday at her home.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Bernice was born in Cold Spring, MN to Thomas Bohnen and Nellie (Berday) Bohnen.  She married Walter N. Decker on September 10, 1949 in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN.  Bernice was employed by Northwestern Bell in Minneapolis, Paynesville Produce Co., World Book Encyclopedia, Avon Cosmetic Products and Cold Spring Granite in Cold Spring, MN.  She also was the owner of Decker‘s’ Duds.  Bernice enjoyed square and round dancing, playing softball and tennis, league bowling, gardening, shopping, card playing, cooking and baking, fishing and camping.  She was the first Majorette for St. Boniface High School Marching Band and the first female salesperson at Cold Spring Granite.  Bernice was a member of St. Boniface Parish, Swirling Springers Square Dance Club and Cold Spring Ball and Chain Club.  Bernice was a good mother who was always there to give you advice.  She always enjoyed a stiff brandy water.  She was the Goddaughter of Cold Spring Record founder Peter Honer.
 
Survivors include her children, John (Jan), Jim, Tom, and Patti; siblings, Joyce Phillips-Kunkel, Shirley Manuel, Marlene Macias and Tommy Jr.; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter N. “Wally” Decker (August 12, 2000); sister, Yvonne Merten; in-laws, Armand “PeeWee” Phillips, Al Kunkel, Mike Merten, Chuck Manuel, Carlos Macias, Al & Lorraine Lipinski, Larry & Doris Decker, Nicholas & Jean Decker and Ervin Decker.

Dr. Stewart C. Ellis “ Doc”, age 91
Cold Spring, MN
May 7, 1925 – November 12, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Dr. Stewart C. Ellis, age 91, who died Saturday at home.  Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery.

Stewart was born in Kimball, MN to Walter and Frances (Stein) Ellis.  He married Mechthild (Tildy) Mueller on February 24, 1962 in Nativity Catholic Church in St. Paul.  He Graduated from Kimball High School in 1944.  He completed undergraduate studies at the University of Minnesota and graduated from Iowa State University (Ames) with a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1949.  Stewart served in the US Army Veterinary Corp.  He worked at Veterinary Clinics in both Bricelyn and Minneota, MN.  Stewart then started his own practice in Cold Spring (Cold Spring Veterinary Clinic) in 1952 and later the St. Joseph Veterinary Clinic.  Stewart was a founding member of the Rocori school Board, where he served for many years.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at Big Fish Lake.  He thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their activities and spending time with family. Stewart and his wife traveled extensively throughout the world.

 Survivors include his wife, Tildy of 54 years; sons, Walt (Trecia), Marty (Suzy) and John (Sara); grandchildren, Maggie, Jack, Charlie, Annie, Luke, Anna, Thomas and Kate.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John (2013); sister, Ena (2016); grandson, Sam (1999).

Raymond J. Gerding, age 88

Gerding, age 88, who died Friday at Assumption Home in Cold Spring surrounded by his loving family.  Burial will be in the Sts. Peter & Paul parish cemetery in Richmond, MN.

Raymond was born in Elrosa, MN to Hubert and Rose (Deters) Gerding.  He married MaryAnn Meyer on May 3, 1955 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spring Hill.   Raymond served in the Army during the Korean conflict.  He worked at Cold Spring (Granite) for 36 years.  Raymond loved eating his wife’s cookies, singing, dancing to old time music, garage parties and going for walks.  He also enjoyed visiting people and house painting. 

Survivors include his children, Deb Vogt (Max Monnens) Sherry (Jim) Hartman, Scott (Robyn) and Pamela Skogland (Paul Fleck); son-in-law, Tucker (Patti) Plantenberg; sister, Lillian Schoenberg; sisters-in-law, Tillie, Rita & Valeria Gerding, Isabel & Kathleen Meyer; 5 grandchildren, Joell & Jenny Vogt, Jenna (Noah) Rezac, Leah (Jake) Riesgraf and Beau Gerding; and 3 great-grandchildren, Taylor & Mykayla Evens, and Isaac Rezac.

He was preceded in death by his wife, MaryAnn; daughter, Denise Plantenberg and unborn child; parents; brothers, Elmer, Wilfred, Robert, and Rueben; 2 infant sisters, Bertha & Bernice Gerding;in-laws, Armella Gerding, Monica & Dillo Leukam, Henry Schoenberg, Leander & Alvera Meyer, and Gerald & Sylvester Meyer.

A special thank you to the staff at the Assumption Nursing Home, Ione Koltes and Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care provided to our dad.  Additionally, we would like to thank Fr. Tuttie C. Rothstein, age 81

Nov. 8, 1934 – Nov. 7, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2016 at Church of Our Lady in Manannah for Tuttie Rothstein, age 81, who passed away on Monday at Regency Hospital in Golden Valley. Rev. Brian Mandel will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the services Monday at the church in Manannah. Parish prayers will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the church in Manannah. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Eden Valley.

Tuttie was born Nov. 8, 1934 in Avon to Alex & Sophie (Pierskalla) Karsh. She married Vince Rothstein, Sr. on Nov. 27, 1952 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids. Tuttie was a homemaker and a member of Church of Our Lady where she was an organist for many years and a member of St. Theresa Circle and the Quilt Guild. She was a hardworking, independent, and very humble person. She raised miniature horses and dogs. Church was very important to her.

Survivors include her sons, Vince Jr. “Jiggs” (DeAnn) of Litchfield and Tim (Penny) of Litchfield; grandchildren, Duane (Chandra) Rothstein, Darrin (Darci) Rothstein, Bobbie Jo (Scott) Kneip, Alisa (Audi) Nickel, Jami (Tasha) Rothstein, Ryan (Amy) Rothstein, Joe Rothstein, Dan (fiancé Abby) Rothstein, Marc (fiancé Jessica) Rothstein, and Jon (special friend Erica) Rothstein; and great grandchildren, Maralaine, Callan, Nolan, Coletta, Sloane, Jack, Paige, Ethan, Briley, Kaylin, Ella, Addison, Emma, Carter, Ava, and Mollie. David E. Hunstiger, age 85

David was born in St. Cloud to Leo and Mathilda (Aigner) Hunstiger.  He married Theresa Slivnik on September 12, 1951 in St. Stephens Catholic Church, St. Stephen, MN.  Dave loved fishing and being with family and friends. He was a father to many, welcomed everyone and was quick to forgive.  He simply enjoyed people.
 
Survivors include his children, Deb Garding, Chuck, Chris (Joyce), Jon (Kris), Mike (Karen), Jenny (Toby) Schnobrich, Steve (Portia), Jeff (Sara), Eric (Rob) and Becky (Jay) Larson; siblings, Rita Brennan, Donna Plotnik, and Ed (Carol) Hunstiger; 29 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Lorraine was born in St. Martin, MN to Peter and Kathryn (Schmitz) Terres.  She married Lawrence Korte in St. Martin on June 12, 1944.  Lorraine was a homemaker and she greatly enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and quilting.  She was a member of St. Ann’s Society, Catholic United Financial and numerous card groups.
 
Survivors include her children Gladys Bottema (Ron Nienaber), Joan (Roger) Rothstein, Ruth Laine, Dennis (Irma), Ken (Pat), Mary (Conrad) Lauer, Donna (Paul) Wellenstein; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Marie Brinkman.

Alquin was born in Wakefield Township, MN to Mathew and Theresa (Keil) Hommerding.  He married Luella Faber on September 9, 1941 in St. Nicholas.  Alquin farmed all his life. Later in life, he started working at Cold Spring Granite until his Retirement.  He loved fishing, hunting, playing cards and the concertina.  Alquin enjoyed his grandchildren tremendously; his greatest joy was his family.
 
Survivors include his children, Ronald (Kathy Yurczyk), Delrose (Edwin) Hansen, Nancy (Wayne) Barthel, Jeff (Carol); son-in-law, Ervin (Samantha) DeWenter; sister, Alma Krueger; 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Charles Guggenberger, 78, of Marietta passed away Monday, October 24, 2016.

Irene Schneider, age 90

Mass of Christian Burial for Irene Schneider of Waite Park who died Tuesday morning at her home will be held 11AM, Saturday, October 22, 2016 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Luxemburg.  Rev. Ronald Weyrens will officiate; burial will be in the parish cemetery.  Visitation will be 4-8PM Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, St. Cloud and after 9:30AM Saturday at Mary Hall in Luxemburg.  Parish prayers will be at 4PM Friday at the funeral home in St. Cloud.

Irene was born on the family farm May 22, 1926 in Richmond to Henry & Gertrude (Ramler) Dingmann. She was born the 10th of 12 children in a German speaking home.  She married Raymond Schneider, also of Richmond, on May 17, 1948 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond.  In 1952 they established their home on the farm in Luxemburg; at that time already the parents of three sons. On that farm they would welcome child after child (including one set of twins), until like Irene's own family they had twelve children. In the early years Ray worked jobs in town while Irene managed the children, milked the cows, and learned to use farm machinery. Later Ray would become a fulltime farmer, always in partnership with Irene. With  an 8th grade education, Irene managed the money through diligent accounting, sewed many of the cloths her children wore, and taught her children the importance of "proper English", getting irked when "educated people" missused the language!   In later years as the children grew and moved out, she worked as a Bus Aid for Spanier Bus and for a few years cleaned mink at the Mueller Mink Farm.  She would often remind her children that "a little hard work never hurt anyone!" She remained a member of St. Wendelin's Catholic Church even after she and Ray moved to a patio home Waite Park in 2007. She was active in the Christian Mothers since 1949.  Irene enjoyed playing cards, especially Solo and 500.  She was an avid book reader and liked working on crossword puzzles.  The hobby she became best known for in later years was her beautiful hand quilting.  She took great pride in donating her work to the parish bazaar as well as other organizations such as Clara's House, Anna Marie's House and the VA.  She never tired of meeting new people and made some of her dearest friends after moving to her neighborhood on Wellington Circle. Until her over worked heart finally decided to stop, she loved to have daily visitors and never tired of holding a new baby; she loved babies and carefully quilted a new baby quilt as her grandchildren (39) and great-grandchildren (62) continued to arrive.  Her heart was full of love until it's very last beat!

Irene is survived by her children, Mike (Pat Rahm) of Duelm, Fred (Kathy Annis) of Clearwater, Marvin (Marietta Heid) of Jacobs Prairie, Geri Watercott (Duane Ott) of St. Cloud, Karen (Leon) Schlangen of Watkins, Mark (Sue Hoffmann) of St. Cloud, Lori (Steve) Krey of St. Cloud, Roy (Cindy Kloss) of Duelm, Mary Jane (Denny Kettelhut) of Lakeville, Joe (Diane Retka) of Clear Lake, Arlene (Mark) Williams of St. Cloud and Tony of Becker; sisters in law and brother in law,  Eileen Dingmann, Valeria Braegelmann, Ray Schmitt, Lauretta Schneider, 39 grandchildren and 62 great grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond (January 31, 2011), grandsons, Andy Schneider on March 16, 2016, Adam Schlangen on May 2, 2016, granddaughter in law, Laura (Holmgren) Schneider on October 17, 2013, brothers and sisters, Ervin, Paul, Bill, Albert, Alfred, Leander, Raymond, Dorothy, Sr. Virginia, OSF, Frances Kohnen and Joseph.

Arnold A. Wicklund, age 93

Arnold A. Wicklund, 93, passed away October 16th at the Assumption Home, Cold Spring, MN. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Richmond Wenner Funeral Home.  Visitation will be one hour before.  Inurnment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Rockville.  Arrangements are entrusted with Wenner Funeral Home, Richmond.

Arnie was born on May 22, 1923 in Little Fork, MN. Parents were Carl Albert Wicklund and Jennie Rose Carlson. The family moved to St Cloud when he was a young child. He attended Jefferson Elementary School and graduated from Tech High School in 1941. He served in the US Army from 1943 to 1946, attached to the Army Engineers building airstrips during WWII. Upon discharge from the Army he worked at the St Cloud Fire Department. He met Mildred Weisman of Rockville, MN and they married in January 1948. Arnie retired after 28 years of service with the fire department and worked in sales for Tony's Siding, He was a charter member of the SE St Cloud VFW, POST 4847.

Arnie is survived by his wife, Mildred; children:  Thomas (Christine), Patricia Malcolm (Ray Skolberg), Jerry Wicklund, Kris Wicklund; siblings: Edna “Dolly” (Bert) Swenson, Audrey (Edwin) Zins, James (Linda) Wicklund; grandchildren: Sara (Brandon), Angela (Josh) and Ben, and three great-grandchildren, Easton, Kennedy and Kiya.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lori Wicklund Johnson: and siblings Evelyn, Bernice and Cleo.

Martin Dietrich, age 87
Cold Spring, MN
Nov 8, 1928 – Oct 9, 2016

Martin Dietrich, passed away quietly while surrounded by family, sitting in his favorite chair in Assumption Home in Cold Spring, MN on October ninth, 2016.

Martin was born on November 8th, 1928 to Jacob and Selma Dietrich in Zeeland, North Dakota. He grew up with his eleven brothers and sisters in Western South Dakota on the family homesteaded farm near McLaughlin. Like many boys of that time, he left his one-room schoolhouse after the 8th grade to help on the farm. One thing led to another and that led him to Aberdeen, South Dakota where he met and married Roberta “Bobbie” Cochrane in August of 1955.

About that one thing leading to another…  Martin did many things during his rich and full lifetime. After leaving the family farm, Martin did a little gold-mining in the black hills, became a cattle rancher with his brother Marvin, and then took to the rodeo. He was riding in Chicago when a particularly ornery bull side-tracked his rodeo career. Then Uncle Sam called and he served as a radio operator in Korea, receiving a bronze star for his service during combat. After returning from Korea, he resumed his education and finished his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Northern State college in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He served as superintendent of schools in Gettysburg, South Dakota and then moved into banking, serving as Vice President in Gettysburg, and President of banks in both Paynesville, Minnesota and Greenfield, Iowa.

Martin was an active member of every community in which he lived including the Lions Club, the Lutheran Church, the Chamber of Commerce, foster parenting, and the Golf course, to name a few.

Martin is survived by his daughter TyLynn Theis (Steve); son Doug  (Rachel); grandchildren Adam Theis (Liz), Matt Theis, Danna Theis, Rebeca Dietrich-Fine (Joe), John Dietrich, and Jake Dietrich; great-grandson “Robbie” Theis; siblings Harold Dietrich (Chun Ok), Leslie Dietrich, Delaine Maxon (Mel), Elwood Dietrich, Kenneth Dietrich; foster children Nancy Daniels, Lynn Chantler, Tammy Jackels, Kevin Langager, and Jake Rantanan.

Martin was preceded in death by his Wife Roberta; siblings Edwin Dietrich, Aurelia Dietrich, Lucy Kamletz, Lorraine Hendrix, Marvin Dietrich, and Elmer Dietrich.

Martin’s family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at Assumption Home and Heartland Hospice, both in Cold Spring, MN for their loving attention and kindness shown both to Martin and Bobbie in their final years and moments.

Martin’s family invites everyone who was lucky enough to know their humble, gracious, and caring father and grandfather to join them in celebrating his life at a viewing to be held at Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring, MN on Wednesday, October 12th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and one hour prior to the service at the church.  A funeral service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, in Cold Spring on Thursday, October 13th at 11:00 followed by a reception at noon.

A gathering of family and friends celebrating the life of Charles will be held at Bradshaw Funeral Home in St. Paul, MN at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12.  

Charles A. Weisman was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota on June 6, 1954.  He is a 1972 graduate of Rocori High School.  He graduated from St. Cloud State University in 1977 with a B.S. degree in Business Management, where he had also fulfilled nearly all of the course requirements for an A.S.  Degree in Electronic Technology.

After graduation, he was briefly employed at Radio Shack, in retail sales and store supervision.

Shortly thereafter he became a Production Supervisor at Magnetic Peripherals, Inc. (a Division of Control Data Corporation), in Bloomington, MN.  He supervised electronic technicians in the manufacture and testing of high capacity disk drives, and was responsible for the maintenance of production equipment.

From 1986 through 1989, he was a Production Foreman at Camco (Division of Emerson Electric), in Chanhassen, MN where he led the work of technicians in the manufacture of electronic motion control and positioning devices.

In 2000 and 2001, he was an Electrical Installer for Despatch Industries, in Lakeville, MN.  He programmed instrumentation, performed functional tests on finished units of production, and he also diagnosed and repaired components, and system units.

In 2002, he was an Electronic Test Technician for Control Products, Chanhassen, MN.

From 2003 to through 2008, he was the Maintenance Buyer for Uponor, Apple Valley, MN.  He oversaw the purchase of electrical and mechanical parts, equipment, and supplies.  He controlled and monitored inventory, performed cost analysis, and improved supplier performance.  He also collaborated in the engineering of start-up projects and prototype projects.

From 2010 through June, 2016, he worked as an Electronic Technician at McCormick Computer Resale, Inc., Apple Valley, MN.

Joseph “Joe” Binsfeld, age 80
Cold Spring
December 9, 1935 – September 30, 2016

Joe was born in St. Nicholas to Carl and Catherine (Furst) Binsfeld.  He married Barbara Rehmann on April 14, 1956 in Colorado Springs, CO.  Joe owned and operated Binsfeld Jewelers for many years and then operated J-B Trophies until his retirement.  Joe was mayor of Cold Spring for two separate terms, he was a 35 yr. member of AA and the Cold Spring Lions.  He enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles, fishing, gardening, building birdhouses and playing cribbage.

Mark attended Rocori High School and Mount Senerio at Lady Smith College where at both schools he was a star running back.  He also continues to hold records in track at Rocori.  Mark loved to collect baseball cards and has hundreds of them.  He was a number one Viking fan along with a number one fan of the band KISS. He was also very proud of being a father to his four children and godfather to his niece, Jamie Dockendorf.  Mark’s passion also included his work at Huisken Meats where he was a second shift Production Supervisor.

Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN.  Peter served our country in the Korean War.  He was a farmer his whole life and enjoyed fishing, baseball and spending time with his family.  He played amateur baseball for Jacob’s Prairie.  Peter served on the St. Martin Co-op Board and he was a member of the St. Joseph Society of St. Martin.

Patricia D. Kirk, age 75

Patricia was born in Farmington, MN to Daniel and Anna (Dircks) Campion.  She married Noel C. Kirk on February 6, 1983 in Lakeville, MN.  Patricia enjoyed volunteering, especially with the local food shelf, where she was on the Board of Directors.  She was a strong community leader and was a fundraiser for Assumption Nursing Home & Community, was on International Board of Directors for Toastmasters, Queen of the Red Hat Society, on the Board of Directors for Goodwill & Easter Seals of St. Paul, and President of Lions Hometown Pride in Cold Spring.  She was a great cook and used her gifts to feed the homeless at the Place of Hope in St. Cloud, MN. She enjoyed making quilts, embroidery, reading and traveling.  Patricia loved the church and was very grateful to those at St. Boniface who brought her communion each and every day.
 
Survivors include her husband, Noel; children, Julie Beissel and Laurie Beno; grandchildren, Frank (Melissa) Beissel, Michelle (Erik) Arnold, Sarah Beno, Jessica Beno, Marissa Beno, Talana (Casey) Sorenson, and Diane (Garrett) Schroeder; brother, James (Jamie) Campion; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Marilyn Ann Sietsema, 90, Watkins, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins, MN.  A memorial service will be 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 14 at Kimball United Methodist Church in Kimball, MN.  Visitation will at the church one hour prior to the service.  Inurnment will be at a later date at the Milford Cemetery in Milford, IA. 

Marilyn was born December 29, 1925 in Montgomery, IA to Edward and Hannah (Anderson) Hamilton.  She grew up in the Milford area and graduated from Milford High School in 1943.  On January 8, 1944, Marilyn was united in marriage to Harold R. Sietsema and blessed with three children.  Although being a mom was her top priority, she also worked several years as a secretary at the High School in Worthington, MN and also for two different insurance agencies.  For the past 6 years, she has been a resident at Hilltop Heath Care Center in Watkins, suffering from dementia.  She loved to sing and play piano; she also loved to fish, play cards, and do crossword and jigsaw puzzles.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 72 years, Harold Sietsema, Watkins, MN; children, Suzanne (Bob) Lindbloom of Richmond, MN, Rodney (Joy) Sietsema of Lindstrom, MN; grandchildren, Jeff (Sara) Lindbloom, Brian Lindbloom, Ana (Mark) Hulzebos, and Glade Sietsema; great-grandchildren, Abby Lindbloom, Kaja and Liara Hulzebos, and Blake and Grant Tylutki.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Marvin Hamilton; and her son, Terry Ray Sietsema.

Bryce was born in St. Cloud, MN to Ryan and Amanda (Schaefer) Holthaus.  He was an amazing big brother, son, grandson, nephew and cousin.  He was a teacher, leader, helper, an extremely caring and compassionate young man.  Bryce had a unique understanding of his faith and love for God.  He always had a smile that was contagious and never met a person who didn’t become a friend.  Bryce loved sports and loved to organize a game with his friends and classmates making sure everyone was included.  Fishing and baseball were two of his favorite things.  He was a member of the Cold Spring Springers Baseball team and served as batboy.  Bryce was in the 3rd grade at St. Boniface Grade School.

Amanda was born in St. Martin to Frank and Emelia (Athmann) Stang.  She married Benedict J. Schlangen on September 8, 1948 in St. Martin Catholic Church, St. Martin, MN and they were blessed with 13 beloved children.  Amanda and Ben farmed side by side for many years, were avid churchgoers and attended adoration faithfully.  She loved family get-togethers, playing cards, setting puzzles, quilting and socializing.
 
Survivors include her children, Joey (Barney) Kiffmeyer, Ron (special friend Becky), Rich (Dorothy), Roger (Nancy), Mary (Ron) Gillitzer, Chickie (Maynard) Meyer, Melvin (Doris), Alvin (Alice), Fred (Phyllis), Steve (Cheryl), Ruth (Carl) Lieser and Ralph (Missy); sister, Imelda Stang; in-laws, Bonnie Stang, Irene Schlangen and Sylvester Theis; 49 grandchildren; and 52 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; child, Benedict Jr.; granddaughter, Lucille Amanda; great-grandson, Henry Carl; siblings, Edgar Stang, Ben Stang, Agnes Simon, Alma Dingmann, Viola Dingmann, and Sr. Anrico Stang.

Delores was born in Cold Spring, MN to John and Regina (Flint) Schlangen.  She married Donald Molitor in Holy Cross Catholic Church in Pearl Lake on September 7, 1954.  Delores worked side by side with her husband, Donald, on the family farm and volunteered at Catholic Charities.  She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, MN Twins, old time music, playing cards, sewing, crocheting, domino’s and gardening both vegetables and flowers.  Delores was a Pro-Life Advocate.

Gary Zumwalde, 63, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, August 31, 2016.  His life was one of deep devotion to his wife, family and his Catholic faith.

Gary was born on March 28, 1953 in Richmond, MN to Ralph and Linda (Ethen) Zumwalde.  On June 24, 1988, he married Linda (Otte) Melville at Sts. Peter & Paul’s Church in Richmond, MN.  They made their home in St. Cloud, MN for 23 years where Gary was employed at the St. Cloud Post Office.  Upon retirement in 2011, Gary and Linda moved to Mankato, MN. 

Gary graduated from Rocori High School in 1971, where he played baseball and had the lead role in the play “To Kill a Mockingbird.”  During his freshman year he achieved the level of Eagle Scout.  Gary served 5 years in the US Navy.  He enjoyed playing softball, bowling and watching NASCAR.  He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul’s Church in Richmond, MN and the American Legion 428 in Waite Park, MN.

After experiencing symptoms for a number of years, Gary was diagnosed with Multiple Symptoms Atrophy in 2012.  As his health declined, he remained positive, thankful for all the care he received and never complained.

Gary is survived by his wife and caregiver, Linda; daughter, Jenny (Ramzy) Filfili; granddaughter, Olivia; siblings, Mary Kay (Fred) Newman, Jeanne (Mark) Zenner, Alan (Diana) and Brian; and six nephews and five nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mary Lee Wahlin, age 84
Red Wing, MN
June 29, 1932 – August 23, 2016

Mary Lee Wahlin, 84, of Red Wing passed away on Tuesday, August 23, at the Assumption Nursing Home in Cold Spring, Minnesota.  She moved to Cold Spring in July and spent the last few weeks surrounded by family members.

Mary was born on June 29, 1932, in Washington DC to Frithjof (F.C.) and Lorena Ness.  The family moved to Red Wing in 1946, and Mary graduated from Red Wing High School in 1950.  On September 3, 1955, she married her soulmate, Robert Wahlin.

Mary started working at the Red Wing Public Library in 1951, she left to raise her family following marriage and returned in 1969 until retirement in 1996.  She also worked for the Red Wing Republican Eagle – serving as society editor on a piece called Between Us Girls in 1956, writing a weekly column called Town and Country from 1957 to 1959, and providing correspondence for the Welch township from 1957 to 1965.

Mary loved to read a good book, write poetry, play cards and games, listen to the Minnesota Twins, spend time with good friends – but most of all, she loved and was extremely proud of her family.

Mary is survived by her children Jerry (Jane) Wahlin of Cold Spring, MN, Mike (Deidre) Wahlin of Ames, IA, and Bobbi (Bill) Kasper of Fergus Falls, MN; grandchildren Andrea (Gabe) Fetzek, Samantha (Brian) Vogel, Casey Wahlin, Jacob Wahlin, Tanner Wahlin, Simon Kasper, Lucas Kasper, and Joshua Kasper; great-grandchildren Jax, Aleah, and Cecelia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Warren Ness, and husband Robert.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Sunday, August 28, at 2:00 pm, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, 24036 County 7 Blvd., Welch, MN 55089, with a reception to follow.  A visitation with the family will occur on Saturday, August 27, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, 602 Plum St., Red Wing, MN 55066.

Ewald Johannes, age 95
Cold Spring
December 13, 1920 – August 21, 2016

Ewald Johannes, died on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at the age of 95 at his home of nearly 60 years, surrounded by his loving family.  He was preceded in death by his wife, of 62 years, Leona Faber Johannes, and children, Ronald, Mary Ellen Larson and Roger, daughter-in-law Ann, grandson-in-law Scott, four brothers and two sisters.

Ewald was a loving family man, known as “Grandpa” to many.  He was never happier than when he was surrounded by his large family.  He and Leona were blessed with nine children, 20 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He will always be remembered by his positive, sweet and loving spirit, mixed at times with a little German vinegar.

 Born on Dec 13, 1920, in St. Nicholas, Ewald spent most of his life in the Watkins and Cold Spring area. As a home builder of 35 years, he was well known and respected for building scores of homes in Central Minnesota.  He was also employed by Kraft Foods in Watkins in his early working years, and the Cold Spring Granite Company. He loved trees and after moving to his current home in rural Cold Spring in 1957, he planted and cared for over fifty thousand trees on his land on Goodner Lake. He was also an avid baseball fan who commandeered the revival of the old Watkins Clippers, managing many years of outstanding baseball in Central Minnesota.   

 He is survived by his children: Jack (Bess) of Inman, SC, Karen (Trevor) Evans, of Big Lake, MN, Thomas, Kathy (Jim) Bell, Randy (Vi), and Mark, all of Cold Spring; siblings: Dorothy, Theresa and Ralph.

With his wife, Leona, Ewald spent his entire lifetime living and caring for his family and children. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the St. Nicholas Men’s Society. 

Services will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016 in the St. Nicholas Catholic Church in St. Nicholas at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.  The St. Nicholas Men’s Society will pray a rosary in the Church at 10:30 a.m.  Family will see friends at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring on Friday, August 26 from 4 – 8:00 p.m.

Eugene “Gene” Lauer, age 73

Gene was born in St. Cloud, MN to Edward and Alvina (Gau) Lauer.  He married Lorraine Stang on February 7, 1966 in St. Wendelin, Luxemburg.  Gene served in the Army from 1962-1965; being awarded a Sharpshooter and Marksman badge. He was a jack of all trades; he worked as a truck driver, instrumentation specialist and mason before finding his passion as a farmer.  After retiring from farming he worked as a maintenance specialist and lastly alongside his son as an auto mechanic.  He could design and build just about anything.  He loved playing cards, taking trips out west, and spending time with his family.
  
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; children, Michele (Jeff) Meyer, Joyce Lauer, LeAnn (Michael) Dietl, Kay (Eric) Iken, Jody (Dan) John, Eugene Jr. Lauer, Gary (Crystal) Lauer; brother, Richard (Sharon) Lauer and 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Margie, Elmer, BeBe and Vera.

Peter & Paul Christian Women and St. Theresa Mission Group.

Esther Lucy Brinker, age 82

Esther was born August 11, 1933 in Cold Spring, MN to Walter and Catherine (Ruegemer) Jungels.   She grew up on a farm near St. Nicholas, MN and had many fun stories of growing up there.  We heard stories about walking two miles to school each day – walking uphill both ways! In her earlier days she waitressed at the Jungels Café.  Esther married Gilbert Brinker on May 10, 1955.  Raising her family and gardening were her true passions.  Anyone knowing Esther would remember her huge, beautiful gardens – seemed like an acre to us kids when we were sent out to weed it!  She called her garden her “therapy”.  She was a Master Gardener before they had a name for it.  Dad was in charge of tilling the soil and mom did the rest!  Esther loved playing cards, going to the casino, bingo and garage sales.  She was a 40 year member of the Cold Spring American Legion Auxiliary, a member of St. Boniface Parish and Christian Women.

Duane Guggisberg, age 60

Duane was born in Litchfield, MN to Louis and Gertie (Ellingson) Guggisberg. He was a professional trucker for 40 years. For the past six years, he worked as a dump truck driver for Rock On Trucks, Inc. He loved a well-maintained vehicle and believed the only tools to have in one’s garage, are Craftsman.

Survivors include his wife Pam; children, Jodie (Tim) Crotteau and Christene (Wade) Sell; siblings, Bruce Guggisberg and Bev Reich; grandchildren, Kory, Ashley, Samantha and Travis; great-granddaughter, Kinsley and family friend, Pat Untiedt.

Isabel (Weismann) Kunkel was born May 29, 1925 in Rockville, MN to Nicholas and Rose (Nieters) Weismann.  She married Norbert Kunkel June 23, 1947 at Mary of Immaculate Conception Church in Rockville. They lived in St. Cloud until 1981 when they moved to Crosslake.  In 2003 they moved to Cold Spring.  She was active in Citizens for Educational Freedom and Council of Catholic Women.  She was employed as a parish secretary at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud and at the College of St. Benedict.  

Survivors include her children, Katherine, Bernard (Karen) Kunkel, Susan (Richard) Klein, Mark (Linda) Kunkel, Dennis (Susan) Kunkel, Richard (Pamela) Kunkel, Mary (Mark) Moraczewski, and Julie (Tom Hall); 14 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: husband, Norbert; and brother, Aloysius Weismann.

Barbara Belka, age 73

Carmel Catholic Church in Rockville, MN where she taught the youngsters of the parish.  Barb played piano and ukulele and loved to play for sing-alongs.  She enjoyed reading, watching old TV shows and playing scrabble.  Barb was a good bowler and went to many national tournaments during her bowling years.  During the last twelve years Barb was a Personal Care Attendant for her nephew Tom Belka, who has Down syndrome.  She is survived by her brother Jim Belka and his wife Nancy Schamber along with their children, Tom and Jenny Belka and many cousins.  Not to be forgotten is Barb’s beloved cat, Angel.  Memorials are preferred to the Down Syndrome Association of MN or donor’s choice.

Mary Ann (Ludwig) Fasbender, age 78

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Lake Henry for Mary Ann (Ludwig) Fasbender, age 78, of Paynesville, who went to her eternal rest on June 11, 2016. Fr. Glenn Krystosek will officiate. Entombment will be in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Paynesville.

Family and friends may called from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2016 and after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, all at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Lake Henry.

Mary Ann was born on July 24, 1937 to Peter Herbert and Barbara (Mergen) Ludwig near Lake Henry. She married James P. Fasbender on June 30, 1956 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Lake Henry. Mary Ann was a 1955 graduate of Paynesville High School and St. Cloud State College.  She taught elementary school in White, South Dakota for two years.  After moving to their farm in the Paynesville area in 1963, she taught in Farming, Roscoe, Paynesville, and ROCORI schools.  Her teaching career spanned 34 years.

​As an active member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Mary Ann served as representative for the Diocesan Centennial, as an Adoration Coordinator, catechism teacher and library volunteer. She also volunteered at the Koronis Manor. She was a member of the St. Louis Christian Women, St. Catherine Mission Group, and was a charter member and first president of the Koronis Nite Owls square dance club. Mary Ann enjoyed teaching, dancing, reading and playing cards, but mostly she loved spending time with her family, friends, and beloved grandchildren.  She was proud of her ten Godchildren too.

Mary Ann is survived by her children, Patricia Fasbender, Des Moines, IA, Linda (Scott) Liebl, Richmond, MN and Joe (Christina) Fasbender, Wyoming, MN; seven grandchildren, Leeza, Patric and Petir Thompson, Mack and Ben Liebl, and Lillian and Ruby Fasbender; siblings, Loretta Wuertz of Waite Park, Mike Ludwig of Melrose, Herb Ludwig (Michelle) of Buffalo, Florentine (LeRoy) Zipko of Maplewood, and Anita (John) Giulianni of Maplewood; sister-in-law Leona (Art) Wuertz of Lake Henry and brother-in-law Lee Salzl of Watkins.
 
She is  preceded in death by her parents, husband James, infant daughter Amy, an infant brother, an infant sister; brothers, Celestine Ludwig, Peter A. Ludwig, Br. Robert Ludwig; sisters, Sr. Catherine Ludwig, Olivia Salzl and Florence Graham; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Ludwig, Lorraine Ludwig, Theresa Ludwig, Vonnie Ludwig and brother-in-law Othmar Wuertz.

Norbert F. Spaeth, age 84
Aitkin
October 30, 1931 - June 13, 2016

Norbert F. Spaeth died Monday, June 13, 2016 at Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin.  He was born October 30, 1931 in Padua to Edward and Catherine (Deters) Spaeth.  Norbert’s mother Catherine passed away in 1936 and Edward married Carolyn Deters in 1937.  The Spaeth family moved to Richmond, MN. where Norbert spent his childhood.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 – 1955.  Norbert was united in marriage to Theresa A. (Schoenecker) on June 21, 1958 at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley.  The couple moved to the Blaine/Ham Lake area where they raised their family.  He worked for the telephone company for over 30 years and retired to Wilkins Lake in the Aitkin area in 1994 where they enjoyed the outdoor life with family and friends.  Norbert enjoyed fishing with his wife Theresa and his best friend, son Dean.  In 2014 they moved from their lake home to Aitkin. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Theresa on January 1, 2016, parents Edward and Catherine, step-mother Carolyn, brothers Roman (Imelda) and Lavern (Joyce).

Norbert is survived by his children: Dean Spaeth of East Bethel, Brenda (Jason) Lindquist of Andover with grandson Cody, and Sandy Spaeth of Duluth.  Brothers Alvin (Bonnie) of Sun Lake, AZ. James (Mary) of Spring Hill, FL. and sister Shirley (Tom) Jungels of Edina.

Renee Catherine Walz, age 91
Rockville

Renee Catherine Walz passed peacefully in the arms of the Lord on June 12, 2016 at the age of 91 years 6 months, after suffering a recent fall, a stroke and related complications.  Her life was one well lived.  Renee was never one to complain, always putting the concerns of others before her own.  She reveled in her devotion to Christ, her love of family and friends, and selflessly doing and caring for others.

She was born Renee Catherine Hennen on December 12, 1924, the daughter of Al and Elizabeth (Jacoby) Hennen of Rockville, MN.  She grew up on the family farm near Rockville and often talked of a childhood spent in a loving home doing the daily chores, playing with her sisters and brothers, and on occasion taking a horse driven sleigh to church in the winter months.

She was united to marriage to the love her life, Leo Edwin Walz, on February 13th, 1947.  In December of 1960, Leo and Renee adopted a son, Robert and in March of 1962, they adopted a daughter, Judith.  Renee was the consummate farm wife and homemaker, helping Leo on the farm, tending to the garden and, most lovingly, being a wonderful Mom to Bob and Judy.  Her home was always a welcome place for her children’s friends.  Renee became “Mom” to them all, and loved them like they were her own.  She was famous for serving homemade cookies, cake, pies or pizza, whether the gathering of kids requested them or not.

She enjoyed listening to music, dancing, playing cards; especially 500 and Canasta, jigsaw puzzles, word find puzzles, reading, cooking, baking and walking barefoot in the grass.  She always seemed to be singing as she did her daily chores or while preparing meals for her family or those gathered for a celebration or holiday.  Although Renee was unable to have flowers in her home due to allergies, she always loved having them in her yard and garden.  Peonies, Petunias and Marigolds were favorites.  Leo and Renee moved to Assumption Court Apartments in Cold Spring, MN in 1999.

She relished her role as Grandmother to granddaughters, Karlee Olson, Ellie Walz, Morgan and Leah Welker, and as Great-grandmother to Henry Olson, born in November of 2015. 

Several months after Leo’s passing in 2003, Renee was diagnosed with breast cancer.  She went on to defeat that dread disease, only to be diagnosed with lymphoma a year later.  The strong woman of good German stock that she was, she also defeated that nefarious foe.

In the years to follow, Renee found new life in serving the Assumption Court and Assumption Home residents by taking meals or mail to friends and neighbors, or just paying a pleasant visit to friends old and new.  Renee was a devout Catholic throughout her life and joyfully volunteered at the Assumption Chapel; opening the doors for daily mass, attending to the Blessed Sacrament and participating in the daily Rosary services.  She was well known around the Assumption Community for giving big hugs to all she encountered and was so very delighted to get them in return.  Her love of music was a constant companion, with the radio tuned to KASM for her beloved Polkas and Waltzes.  She also loved to listen to the wonderful musicians who played Sunday afternoons at the Assumption Home, especially Max & Deb and Al Brisse.  We can’t thank you enough for the joy you brought to her life.

Renee always saw, and honestly believed in, the good in everyone and would greet all with a bright smile and a loving embrace.  But she wasn’t one to suffer fools and would voice her consternation by crossing her legs, pulling her sweater closed quickly and tightly with both arms and sternly declaring; “Piffle”!  We never knew the meaning of the word, but the intent was more than clear.

Renee is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Melanie Walz, daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Kurt Welker; granddaughters, Karlee (Ryan) Olson, Ellie Walz, Morgan Welker, Leah Welker and great-grandson, Henry Olson.  Sisters and brothers, Delrose Hondl, Marilyn (Othmar) Schmitz, Oliver Hennen and Louis Hennen; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Ernie Stumpf, and Ervin and Rosie Schwalich, as well as a legion of beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo on September 18, 2003; sister, Sister Mary Pius; sisters-in-law, Marie Stumpf, Florine Young and Verena Hennen; brothers-in-law, Peter Becker, Elmer Walz, Matt Hondl and Harold Young; nephews, Tommy Schwalich, Lee Ferrell, Vernon Schmitz, Lloyd Abfalter and Daryl Schmitz; special niece Doris Ethan and many other relatives and friends.

Renee’s family would like to thank everyone who visited or sent cards to Renee during her time in the nursing home.  We also recognize the wonderful residents at the Assumption Community for their friendship and kindness.  We also commend the dedicated staffs at Assumption Court and Assumption Home for the gentle loving care they provided Renee throughout the years.  A special “Thank You” to Father Julius for his spiritual care in Renee’s last days.  Renee truly loved you all.

Mary was adopted by Francis and Mary Russell at 7 months old.  She married Yogi Fuchs and they had three girls; Debbie, Cindy and Mary.  Molly worked at Fingerhut and in 1971 she was a teacher’s aide in Cold Spring.  In 1976 she moved to Willmar where she worked in Bethesda Nursing Home.  In 1979 Molly married Ervin VanHove in Cara City.  In 1986 Ervin and Molly went to Texas with Ervin’s company.  They spent 5 years down there.  Ervin went back working with heavy equipment and Molly went to work at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.  She worked at the nursing home for 15 years.  In 2002 Ervin passed away and in 2010 Molly came back to Cold Spring to be closer to her children.  Molly volunteered at Assumption Nursing Home and helped at church once in a while.

Survivors include her daughters, Debbie (Brett) Cox, Cindy (Jim) Tamble, Mary (Rick) Olson; siblings, Eileen (Chuck) McKinnon, Tom Russell; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Dick was born May 19, 1936 in Duelm, MN to Gene and Mabel (Dziuk) Kampa.  He married Anna “Mae” Schneider on October 17, 1959 in St. Mary’s Church, St. Cloud, MN.  Dick enlisted in the United States Navy from 1954-1958 as an Aviation Electrician.  He was an owner, operator and auctioneer of Granite City Livestock; a family owned business in St. Cloud, MN.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Anna “Mae” (Schneider) Kampa; mother; Mabel Kampa McMahon; children, LeeAnn (Gary) Backes, Lynette (Dan) Brannan, Randy (Veronica) Kampa; grandchildren, Chad, Amanda, Nicole, Evan, Kyle, Grant, Garrett and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Kampa; brother, James “Tuffy” Kampa and granddaughter, Erika Brannan.

Raymond was born in Farming, MN to Rudolph and Bertha (Behnen) Rolfes.  He married Dolores Burg on October 1, 1953 in St Catherine’s Catholic Church in Farming.  Raymond served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 as an MP in Seoul, Korea during the Korean War.  He farmed most of his life on the family farm Southeast of Farming and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing the family Bullament card game monthly, or as needed.  He was a member of Cold Spring VFW and American Legion, Richmond Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters and Farming Sportsman Club.

Bernard Wesbur, age 76

Ben was born in Belgrade, MN to Frank and Anna Wesbur.  He married Barbara Tieman in 1962 and they had 3 children.  He later married Tanya Voronina in 2001 at the couple’s home on the farm.  Ben served in the United States National Guard for 6 years.  He farmed all of his life and was a talented gem cutter and welder.  Ben was an extremely creative person who was always willing to help out his neighbors.

Survivors include his wife, Tanya Wesbur; children, Michael (Mary) Wesbur, David (Brenda) Wesbur, William (Rachael) Wesbur, Nadia Wesbur; siblings, Monica Heinen, Walter Wesbur, Wilfred Wesbur and Mary Kraemer; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Leona Wenning.

Jean Ruth Olmscheid, age 83
Cold Spring
November 6, 1932 – May 13, 2016

Jean Ruth (Hansgen) Olmscheid, age 83, a wife, mother, sister, daughter, godmother and friend but especially a grandmother, took her journey home to be with her husband Donald, parents Ruth and Everette Hansgen, sisters Jackie Wenner and Joan Goebel, and step-mother Hildegard Hansgen on May 13, 2016.  Funeral Services will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring and the visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 AM.  Fr. Matthew Luft, OSB will officiate and interment will immediately follow in the parish cemetery.  Arrangements are being entrusted to Miller-Carlin Funeral Home, St. Cloud.

Jean’s last months were spent living with family due to a decline in health.  Her constant love for her grandchildren’s lives filled her with BMX & Dirt bike Racing, Soccer, Horse Barrel Racing, Marching Band, Civil Air Patrol, Dance, Show Choir, Basketball, Softball, and Volleyball.  There was also babysitting cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, horses, hamster, fish, and other miscellaneous critters. 

During her care, Jean found that a 4-legged nurse (Joy) would become her companion both day and night with Dr. Christopher Wenner of Cold Spring, Nurse Sean from St. Croix Hospice, and April & Katie of Home Instead who all made life and movements so much easier for her.  In her last days, Jean made the move to Quiet Oakes where she, her children, and grandchildren found another loving and caring family that helped complete her life’s journey.  A very special thank you to all the staff and volunteers at Quiet Oakes Hospice House.

Jean was born November 6, 1932 in Richmond, MN.  She spent her early years as a cosmetologist.  She married Donald Olmscheid on September 5, 1952 in Richmond, MN.

She is survived by her 3 children Douglas (Linda) Olmscheid, Janice (Glen) Thomes, Jill (Randy) Svihel, and 7 grandchildren: Zach & Courtney Olmscheid , Cory, Drew & Jamie Thomes, and Stacy & Ashlan Svihel.  She is also survived by her 2 younger brothers Everette “JR” Hansgen and Nick Hansgen, sisters-in-law Diane Hansgen and Irene Schwinghammer, brother-in-law Arnie Olmscheid, and her half siblings Diane Hansgen, Debra Hansgen, David Hansgen, Dan Hansgen, and Denise Kurowski. 

Jean will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Robert John “Huntz” Hansen, age 67

Huntz was born in St. Cloud to Wilfred and Margaret (Korn) Hansen.  He served in the Army from 1971 to 1977.  Huntz was a kind hearted and generous man who would do anything for anyone.  He loved all sports, staying up to date on current events and taking trips to the casino.

Mildred was born in St. Martin, Minnesota to Peter and Mary (Klehr) Schmitt.  She married William Dingmann on May 27, 1941 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin, Minnesota.  Mildred and William owned a farm in St. Nicholas for 42 years.  She loved cooking, baking, gardening, quilting and sewing.  Mildred especially enjoyed socializing, playing cards and spending time with her family.  She was a member of Christian Women, Catholic Order of Forresters and Catholic Aid.

She is survived by children, Kathleen (James) Utecht, Gene (Ann) Dingmann, Dennis (Sondra) Dingmann, Harvey (Teri) Dingmann, Larry (Donna) Dingmann and Ron (Scot Smith) Dingmann; siblings, Sister Claire OSB, Sister Miriam OSB, Father Silverius, Joe Schmitt, Louise Heurung and Ellie Otremba; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren

Lynda Weis, age 61

Lynda Weis, age 61, died peacefully at home Thursday, May 5, 2016 surrounded by family.

Lynda was born in Appleton, MN to Clarence and Doris (Darr) Blahosky.  She married Daniel Weis on October 19, 1974 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sauk Rapids, MN.  Lynda loved camping, spending time outdoors, collecting and reading old books.  Her biggest love of all was her family and spending time with her grandkids.

Adam J. Schlangen, age 37
Rush City, formerly of Watkins
February 21, 1979 - May 2, 2016

Adam J. Schlangen passed away on Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming, MN following a courageous battle with cancer.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. Fr. Bob Rolfes will officiate.  Music will be by Kathy Pauls and Julie Koenig.  Honorary casket bearers are Luke Watercott, Chad McKay, Steve Ludwig, Larry Ludwig, Mike Esselman and Josh Pikula.  Casket bearers are Justin Wendroth, Rob Haag, Mike Pufahl, Justin Schneider, Shaun Haag, Eric Plantenberg, Adam Teicher and Kelly Lipinski.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and will continue from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins.

Adam Schlangen was born on February 21, 1979 at St. Cloud, the son of Leon and Karen (Schneider) Schlangen.  He grew up in the Watkins area and graduated from the Eden Valley-Watkins High School in 1997.  He attended St. Cloud State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. 

On September 8, 2001, Adam was united in marriage to Cindy Ludwig at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond.  He was an amazing husband and father who will be greatly missed for his innovations, wisdom, huge heart and integrity.  For the last 13 years, Adam worked at his dream job at Polaris Industries.  He created many novel, innovative designs and holds many patents. 

Adam’s hobbies included camping, four wheeling, off roading and snowmobiling.  He was a “gear head” and enjoyed working in his shop, and built his hot rod from the ground up.  He was a member of the Minnesota Street Rod Assn.

 Survivors include his wife, Cindy Schlangen of Rush City; Children, Hunter, Austin, Josephine and Isabel; parents, Leon and Karen Schlangen of Watkins; mother-in-law, Joyce Miller of Lakefield; grandmother, Irene Schneider of Waite Park; sisters, Lisa (Josh) Pikula of Rockville, Amy (Mike) Esselman of Austin, TX;  many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Adam was preceded in death by his grandparents, Raymond Schneider, Geraldine and Cyril Massmann, Edmund and Delores Schlangen; father-in-law, Joseph Ludwig.

Arthur “Art” Fischer, age 80

Art was born in Avon, MN to Peter and Eleanor (Schmitt) Fischer.  He married Kathleen Schlangen on September 11, 1956 in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marty, MN.  Art loved farming, tractors, and animals; especially raising black angus cows and polka dancing down the barn aisle.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his loyal dog, Duke.  Art was a member of St. James Parish.

 Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; daughter, Joyce (Don) Salzer and their children, Jeremy Salzer, Luke (Brenda) Salzer and Katie (Jason) Okerstrom; daughter, Sue (Randy) Reischl and their children, Amanda (Scott) Caird, Nicole Reischl (Ryan Fischer), Adam Reischl (Ali Schwinghammer); great-grandchildren, Zack and Garrett Okerstrom, Madison and McKenzie Loch, Gavin Salzer, Rodney and Jacob Salzer, and Britta Caird.

Marie was born in Lake Henry, MN to Lawrence and Anna (Gruber) Haider.  She married Paul Wesbur on August 13, 1983 in Cold Spring.  Marie worked briefly at Assumption Home in Cold Spring, but her passion in life was taking care of her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed cooking, gardening, farming and traveling.  Marie was a member of St. Boniface Christian Women and St. Julians Mission Group, Sts. Peter & Paul Christian Women in Elrosa and Daughters of Isabella.

Survivors include her husband, Paul; children, Melvin (Carol) Hagemeier, Alvin (Donna) Hagemeier, Rose (Charlie) Leyendecker, Audrey Schwagel, Joseph (Chris) Hagemeier; siblings, Lawrence Haider Jr., Bernie Massmann, Margaret Meyer, Helen Haider; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Eugene F. Lehmeier, age 90

Lehmeier, age 90, who died surrounded by his family on Sunday evening at the Assumption Nursing Home, Cold Spring. Inurnment will be in the MN State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN.

Gene was born in St. Cloud, MN to Roman and Martha (Baron) Lehmeier.  He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theater. Gene married Doris Carris on August 13, 1949 in St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Cloud.  He was an avid outdoorsman and passed his love of nature onto those who knew him.

Survivors include his children, Phyllis (Dwight) Petty, Linda (Mark) Spohn, Janet (Bob) Petro, Ron (Terri) Lehmeier; sisters, Mildred Senezek, Rosemary Wagner, Dorothy Kalla; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Floyd Suckut, age 83

December 4, 1932 – April 15, 2016

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2016, at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond, MN, for Kenneth Floyd Suckut, age 83, who died Friday after a courageous battle with ALS.  A private Inurnment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Kenneth was born in Bowdon, ND, to Fred and Lydia (Schaubert) Suckut.  He married LaVon Tallman on August 2, 1956, at the Church of God in Bowdon, ND.  Ken proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He was a farmer, electrician and carpenter.  Ken enjoyed camping, photography, geocaching, gardening, going to thrashing shows, fishing and spending time with friends and family.  He was a very skilled woodworker, making many things – furniture, games, knickknacks, jewelry and even a teardrop camper.

Survived by his wife, LaVon; daughter, Sheila Motzko (Kevin Hudak); son, Monte Suckut; grandsons, Kyle Reischl and Spencer Suckut; great-grandchildren, Brody and Layla Reischl; and sister, Garnet Schander.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lydia; brothers, Lorance, Jake, Bob, Roy and Donald.

Jake Foehrenbacher, age 16
St. Nicholas

Jake  Foehrenbacher, 16 of St. Nicholas, passed away at the Minneapolis Children’s Hospital as a result of a ruptured brain aneurysm, surrounded by all of his family and many of his close friends.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the Eden Valley – Watkins High School in Eden Valley.  Fr. Thomas Olson will officiate.   A private interment will be held at the St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery.  A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church.  A gathering and time of fellowship for family, friends and students will be held after the funeral mass at the Eden Valley – Watkins High School. Jake was a sophomore at Eden Valley – Watkins High School.  He was a life-loving athlete; an excellent student; a son, brother, teammate, and friend of many. He was never without a smile or a smart comment.

Evangeline J. Noll, age 93

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin, MN for Evangeline J Noll, age 93, who died peacefully Wednesday evening surrounded by her family. Inurnment will be privately held in the parish cemetery. 

A visitation for Evangeline will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the St Martin Parish Hall in St. Martin. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services Tuesday morning at the St. Martin Parish Hall. 

Evangeline was born in St Martin to Alexander and Mary Magdalin (Holper) Didier. She married Florian Noll on June 10, 1947 in St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin. Evangeline was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved playing cards, working crossword puzzles and was an excellent seamstress and baker.  Evangeline was a long standing member of the St. Ann’s Christian Women and the Rosary Society.

Survivors include children, Dave (Mary) Noll, Mike (Diane) Noll, Anne (Dale) Lawrence, Jerry (Jan) Noll, Teresa (John) Gossett, Mary (JC) Canton, Barb (Jim) Kastanek, Mark Noll, and Catherine Noll; brother, Joseph; 40 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her son, Gerald; her husband, Florian, parents; many brothers and sisters.

Marvin A. Sauer, age 83

August 27, 1932 – April 12, 2016

A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 18, 2016 at Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring, MN for Marvin Sauer, age 83, who died Tuesday at Wellstead of Rogers.  Burial will be in the Minnesota State Cemetery in Little Falls.

There will be a gathering of relatives and friends one hour prior to the memorial service at the funeral home.

Marvin was born in Cold Spring to Steve and Elizabeth (Eisenschenk) Sauer.  Marvin served in the U.S. Army for 22 years and served two tours of duty in Vietnam.  He married Ingrid Daumann in Georgia and later moved to St. Augusta where they lived most of their lives.  Marvin was an instructor for the ROTC program at St. John’s University.  He had a fondness for hunting and fishing and a tremendous love for animals especially, his beloved dogs.  

Survivors include his son, Stephan Sauer; step-daughter, Lydia Andren; grandchildren, Erich Andren, Aaron,Samantha and Lyndsey Sauer; great-grandchildren, Maci, James; sisters, Irene (Bud) Reber, La Donna Baker; brothers, Leander (Deb) Sauer, Ralph (Carole) Sauer; many nieces and nephews, and dear friend, Marcia and special fishing buddy, Doug Jacques.

Linus was born in Eden Lake Township, MN to John and Theresa (Weyland) Heinen.  He married Caroline Aloysia Mehr on May 4, 1960 in the Church of St. Martin, St. Martin, MN.  Linus served in the United States Army from 1955-1957 as a truck driver.  Linus farmed his whole life on the family farm north of Cold Spring.  He served on the Collegeville Township Board for 36 years.  Linus enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, playing cards, the view from his deck, and spending time with his family.  He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and was a Trustee of St. James Parish.

 Survivors include his wife, Caroline; children, Sandra (Dale) Westlund, Thomas (Jacqueline), Theresa (Bill) Doll, Chuck, Gary (Terri), Carmen (Mike) Rodewald, Julie (John) Reitmeier, Christine (Dan) Goodale, and Jeff; siblings, Eugene (Bernice), Celestine (Laverne), John (Irma), and Ralph (Helen); in-laws, Melvin (Cathy) Mehr, Susie (Denny) Wurm, Louise Mehr; 16 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild on the way.

Francis “Frank” Spiczka, age 72

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Francis “Frank” Spiczka, age 72, of Tyler, Minnesota, will be Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Dionysius Catholic Church.  Visitation will be one hour prior to mass all at St Dionysius Catholic Church.  Interment will be at St. Dionysius Catholic Cemetery in Tyler.  He died Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Tyler.

Francis Valerian Spiczka was born to Frank Stanley and Mathilda Veronica (Niedzielski) Spiczka on January 6, 1944 in Gilman, Minnesota. In the spring of 1947 Frank moved with his parents to Foley, Minnesota, and in the fall of 1947 they moved to Albany, Minnesota where his dad worked for Kraft Foods. In 1950, the family moved to St. Nicholas, Minnesota and his dad worked as a boiler engineer at the Cold Spring Brewery in Cold Spring, Minnesota. While living in St. Nicholas, Frank attended Catholic school. In 1955 the family moved to a farm home east of St. Nicholas where Frank attended school in a one-room country school house. He continued his education at Kimball High School in Kimball, Minnesota. On February 9, 1961 Frank enlisted in the United States Air Force and received his technical training in the electrical field. His home base station was at the Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota. While stationed there he met Karen Bitterman. Frank was honorably discharged from the air force on February 9, 1965 and left active duty. On February 13, 1965 Frank and Karen were united in marriage at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rapid City. Following their marriage, they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where Frank worked at a service station and then as a mechanic at Columbia Capital Transit. In 1966 they moved to Lake Andes, South Dakota and worked at the Rest Haven Resort. While at the resort, a major storm caused power outages over a large area. Frank started working with a power line contractor, Stake Construction. After completing the storm damage repairs he stayed with the contractor and moved to Tyler, Minnesota, settling on a farm site south of town. In the fall of 1967 Frank began working as a power lineman for Lyon-Lincoln Electric Cooperative in Tyler. In April, 1972 the couple purchased a farm home in Section 32 of Marshfield Township west of Tyler. Frank retired as the manager of the Member Relations Department and Director of Safety in December 2006 after working for the Cooperative for 39 years and six months. On Sunday, April 10, 2016 Frank died at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Tyler at the age of 72.

Frank was a member of St. Dionysius Catholic Church in Tyler where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus as a third degree Catholic Knight. He was also a member of the A.C. Hansen American Legion Post 185. He enjoyed woodworking. He especially enjoyed mother nature and spending time outdoors. He watched the sunset whenever possible.

Frank is lovingly remembered by his wife, Karen of Tyler, MN; four children, Carol Alexander of Tyler, MN, Ruth (Matt) Pearson of Front Royal, VA, Brenda Brown of Spearfish, SD, and Stanley (Sandy) Spiczka of Front Royal, VA; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; five sisters, Mary Ann (Jim) Wegrzyn of Ankeny, IA, Delores (Matt) Shifflet of Minneapolis, MN, Kathline Stearns of St. Cloud, MN, Celestine (Bob) Beckius of Watkins, MN, and Rosella (Pete) Roeser of Walker, MN; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Nicholas; his parents; two brothers, Benedict and Harry Spiczka; and a sister, Lorraine Schaffer.

Larry Anderson, age 72
Cold Spring
July 5, 1943 – April 4, 2016

Larry Jon Anderson, age 72, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 4, 2016, at The Legends at Heritage Place in Sartell, MN.  He was born on July 5, 1943 in Ladysmith, WI to Robert and Margaret Anderson.  Larry was a 1962 graduate of Ladysmith High School, Ladysmith, WI, and a 1964 graduate of Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis.  He moved to Sartell, MN in 1969.  He worked in construction management at Brutger Companies for 13 years and for a variety of other companies as a construction manager until retiring in 2005.

Larry resided in Cold Spring, MN for the past 11 years and is survived by daughter, Julie (Brian) Guggenberger, Cold Spring; son, Steven Anderson, Minneapolis; three grandsons, Alex Guggenberger, Coon Rapids; Andy Guggenberger, St. Louis Park; Evan Guggenberger, St Paul; one great-grandson, Isak Guggenberger, Coon Rapids; two brothers, Robert (Nancy) Anderson, Antigo, WI; and Jeff (Roxi) Anderson, Dracula, GA.

George Thomas Cordt, age 83

November 2, 1932 – April 2, 2016

A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016 at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring, MN for George Thomas Cordt, age 83, who died Saturday at his home.  Inurnment will be at the Minnesota States Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

George was born in Big Stone City, South Dakota to William and Agnes (Ludwig) Cordt.  He married Bonnie Lu Horsky and they had 4 children.  George later married June Thelen.  He spent most of his childhood in and around Fairmont, MN.  George joined the Air Force 1952 at the age of 19.  He traveled all over the world and worked in places such as England, Denmark, Germany and Bermuda. In the states he was stationed in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Ohio and Arizona.  He started his career as an airplane mechanic – a line Chief, working on C-47’s that he says were older then he was.  George was in Vietnam twice and received a medal for his tour in 1968 thru 1969.  He achieved the rank of E7- Master Sergeant.  He retired in 1972 at the age of 39, having served 20 years, 3 months, 13 days and 12 minutes.  After the Air Force he started his 2nd career at the U.S. Post Office, retiring there.

He is survived by his children, Becky (Dan) Ouimette in Pell City, AL, Debra (Lowell) Rokala-Mathiowetz in New Ulm, MN and Karen (Larry) Huhn in Darwin, MN; step-children, Jennifer Heinrich, Jim (Debbie) VanVooris, Jeff VanVooris, and Scott Thelen; siblings, William in Fairmont, MN, Albert “Bud” (Darlene) in Northrop, MN, Alice in Golden Valley, MN and Robert (Jeanie) in Shakopee; Loyal furry companion, Cordtney; Grandchildren, Dr. Danielle Monteil in OH, Dr Jenelle Hodges in AL, Lorielle Ouimette in MI, SFC Saara Loch in MN, Seth Rokala in MN, Benjamin Huhn in OH, and Joseph Huhn in MN; and great-grandchildren, Lily, Mason, Caleb, Lyndsey, Catelyn, Peyton, Kaitlyn, Kammie, Lylee, Hayden, Henley, Shyra, Skyla, Summer and Sophia.

Donald was born at home in Pearl Lake to Joseph and Elizabeth (Rausch) Molitor.  He married Delores Schlangen in Holy Cross Catholic Church in Pearl Lake on September 7, 1954.  Donald was a member of Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Council.  He held many board positions including Grand Knight.  Donald became a member of the 4th Degree Fr. Pierz Assembly in 1990 and his family also won Knights of Columbus family of the year award in 2009. He worked as a dairy farmer his whole life.  He loved spending time with his family, old time music, playing the accordion, cards, MN twins and western movies.  Donald was a lifelong Pro-Life advocate.  He also supported seminarians and dedicated his time to that cause.  He was a loving husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa who was honest, hardworking, and had a deep faith.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Delores; children, Yvonne (Richard) Ruprecht, Linda (David) Robasse, Joseph, Janice (David) DeLozier, Thomas (Mary) and Mary (Jerry) Krippner; sister-in-laws, Bernice Molitor and Alice Molitor; 23 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Shirley Molitor; brothers, Walter, Clifford, Victor and Francis Molitor; sisters, Marie Molitor and Lorrella Loesch.

Frederick Anthony Abeln, 72
Colorado
January 8, 1944 – March 6, 2016

Frederick Anthony Abeln of Conifer, CO, died on March 6, 2016 at Swedish Medical Center after a battle with lung cancer. Fred was born to John and Veronica Abeln on Jan 8, 1944. After serving in the Army, Fred made Conifer his home. Fred made his living building cabinets in a small shop at his home and his work is the pride of many homeowners in the Evergreen/ Conifer area.

Fred was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed archery, fishing, hunting, camping, cutting and splitting wood to heat the house and always enjoyed a round of cribbage with friends. Fred also loved a ride on his beloved Harley Davidson.

Survivors include his wife Cora (Ramler) Williams, brother Jerry Abeln (wife Liz), sister Lorraine (husband Jack) Werner, and 7 nieces.

Fred was preceded in death by his father and mother John and Veronica Abeln, brother Melvin Abeln, nephew Gary Abeln, niece Sandra Abeln, and his precious dogs Linden, Coco, and Murphy.

Sandy was born in Richmond, MN to Richard and Mildred (Utecht) Feldhege.  She married Russ Butala on March 9, 1991.  Sandy was employed by Cold Spring for the past 15 years. Sandy was always happy, an upbeat person, very caring, loved life and everyone she came in contact with.  She will be missed by all.

Barbie was born in Richmond to Ralph L. and Viola S. (Thielman) Haffley.  She married Ron “Barney” Silbernick on April 19, 1969 in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond.  Barbie worked for Frigidaire for 28 years and was a member of Granite City Machinist local union 623.  She loved being with her family, watching her grandchildren’s sporting events, her grandson perform in theater, and Minnesota sports teams on T.V. or live.  Barbie also loved watching / feeding the birds, camping and going to the casino.

Andrew was born in Richmond, MN to Jacob and Lucy (Weisman) Rothstein.  He married Martha (Buermann) on May 6, 1953 in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond.  Andrew served in the Army from 1950 to 1952.  He worked at the Cold Spring Granite Company in various capacities from 1949 to 1990.  Andrew enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, woodworking and playing cards.  He was a fan of the Minnesota Twins.  Andrew loved spending time with his family and volunteering for numerous parish organizations. 

Survivors include his wife, Martha; children, Michael (Janice), Marlene (Jim) Graham, Kenneth, Marvin (Lois), Kathleen (Mark) Silvers, Myron (Julie), Marcy (Dan) Schleper, Matthew (Deborah), and Keith (Joe Angaran); brothers, Sylvester, Martin, and Ansgar; sister, Clara Heinze; 16 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Janet was born in Bemidji, MN to Ervin and Delma (Johnson) Jacobson.  She married Jim McDonald on September 15, 1990 in Detroit Lakes.  Janet was a RN for 20 years and after further education she became a Physician’s Assistant which she did for 15 years.  Her patients were like her family.  Janet had an ability to treat everyone with equality and respect.  She had an undying love for all furry and feathered friends.  Janet also enjoyed gardening, golfing, and needle point.

Marge passed away peacefully on March 10, 2016 at Country Manor in Sartell, MN.  Reverend Matthew Luft, OSB will officiate.  Private entombment will be at the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.  Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, March 14, at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud.   Parish Prayers will be held at 4 p.m.   Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the services at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring on Tuesday.

Marge was born November 4, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Robert A. and Frances (Wisniewski) Gloggner.  On November 27th, 1947, Marge A. Gloggner and Mike Palmer were united in Holy Matrimony at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph, Missouri.  Marge and Mike had six children; Michael, Steven, Robert, Judith, Joan and Carol.  Marge was a devoted wife and mother teaching her children love, compassion, fun, an appreciation for music and the arts, and a drive to achieve excellence in everything they do.

In 1966 Marge co-founded Palmer Printing Company, supporting Mike in his dream to be an independent business person.  Marge enjoyed her time in her “little doll house” in Mesa, Arizona, playing golf and bridge, traveling and attending social activities; especially early morning water aerobics “pool side”.  Marge treasured her friends in Arizona, Cold Spring and at Country Manor in Sartell.  A special Thank You to all who loved Marge and treated her as family when she needed assistance over the years.

Marge was well known for her infectious smile, positive attitude, competitive nature and sense of style.  Her common exclamation when introducing or speaking of her children, family and friends was often precluded with “THE WONDERFUL……”.

Marge is survived by her sons: Dr. Michael Palmer (Keta), Bayside, California; Steve Palmer (Debbie), St. Cloud; Dr. Robert Palmer (Fiancee Sophia), Muncie, Indiana; Judy Feneis (Steve), Sartell; Joanie Haus (Rick), St. Cloud; Carol Galstad (Aaron), Brainerd; grandchildren: Jakob, Tessa, Eric, Allison, Sean, Jon, Nicole, Matthew Palmer; Nathan, Jennifer and Christopher Feneis; Brandon, Travis, Kirsten Haus; Fletcher Galstad and eight great grandchildren.

Marge was preceded in death by her husband Mike (2004), her parents and brothers Bill and Jack Gloggner.

Elmer was born in Plummer, MN to William and Helena (Gerres) Worm.  He married Joan Plantenberg on September 27, 1958 in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond.  Originally deferred from the service for farm work, Elmer later served his country as a member of the US Army in the infantry.  After working at the Richmond Mill and Cold Spring Brewery he ran his own business, Richmond Sand & Gravel (“the pit”) and operated it until it was sold in 1992.  He was a long-time member of the Richmond Lions. Joan passed in 1992 and Elmer married Mary Lou Benedict in 1995. Elmer enjoyed everything outdoors and rarely could be kept inside.  Elmer’s tall form was often seen walking the roads around Richmond when he wasn’t tending his lawn and gardens, or visiting his beloved “pit”.  He had a kind soul paired with an up-beat attitude and believed, and said the best of, everyone.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou (Benedict); children, Mary (Robert) Haupert, their children and grandchildren, Richard (Emily), Steven, Thomas, and Aurora, Jody (Kevin) Beneke, their children, Erich and Kelly, Barbara (David) Heinen, their children, Bryce and Luke; step-children, Don (Jeanette Doty) Christensen, David (Linda) Christensen;  step-grandchildren, Erick and Evan Christensen;  2-great-grandchildren; sister, Leona (Edward) Winczewski; sisters-in-law, Ruth Worm, Katie Worm, Irene Plantenberg; many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Lily.

Tony was born in Minneapolis to Anthony E. and Monica E. (Schreifels) Pelzer.  He grew up in Rockville and graduated from Rocori High School in 1995.  He graduated from St. Cloud State with a degree in Aviation.  He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Reserve from 1995-2000.  Tony flew commercially for Republic Airlines and later was a rental property owner and manager in Louisville, KY.  He enjoyed flying, sailing with his mother, spending time with his sister Debbie and his nephews, Aiden and A.J., and his niece, Abby.

Survivors include his mother, Monica; sister, Debbie Sorenson; nephews, Aiden and A.J. Sorenson; niece, Abby Sorenson; step-mother, Elizabeth; and step-siblings, Dr. Allen (Diane) Schnaser, Catherine Martin, Susan (David) Kestner, Joseph (Mary) Mayers and Joanne (Jason) Chapman.

Mary Ann was born in Freeport to Charles and Frances (Beutz) Altman.  She married Clarence Bloch on August 29, 1959 at Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Rockville, MN.  Mary Ann was a homemaker who loved to draw and was a tremendous seamstress.  She enjoyed farming, bird watching, gardening, playing piano and was very faithful to God and the Virgin Mary.  She was a member of Mary of the Immaculate Conception Christian Women.

Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Clarence; children, Kathy (Harvey) Dorn, Joe, Tom (Lori), Joan (Ray) Leahy; grandchildren, Katy and Cheryl Dorn, and Nathan Leahy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and 8 siblings. 

Pearl Larson, age 90

Pearl Caroline Larson was born on February 3, 1926 in Eagle Bend, MN to Oscar and Huldah (Ek) Olson.  She was baptized on June 10 at Esther Lutheran Church of Parkers Prairie, MN and was confirmed on August 4, 1940.  She attended Parkers Prairie High School, graduating in 1944.  Immediately following she worked at Midland National Bank, downtown Minneapolis until August 12, 1946 when she married Duane Larson.  They lived in and around Bertha, MN, where all of their children were born.  In 1968 they moved to Cold Spring, MN, where they have resided since.  In 1973 Pearl attended the American Floral Art Design School in Chicago, Illinois and later that fall opened the first flower shop in Cold Spring.  She named it Spring Floral Shoppe.  When later she sold it, the new owners renamed it Cold Spring Floral, which it still remains.  In 1981 she acquired her insurance license and was a district representative for Aid Association for Lutherans, which is now Thrivent.  She retired in 1990.  She and her husband have traveled extensively since then.  Pearl was an avid seamstress, among things she has sewn is a quilt for each of her children and each of her grandchildren.  She entered two of them at the Minnesota State Fair.  She loved to play cards, especially bridge, she was a charter member of the local “Meals on Wheels” program, an excellent pie maker, and former Lioness member and volunteered at her church and community.  She was very proud of her Swedish heritage.  She reveled in the laughter of her grandchildren all of whom she knew well and kept close contact with, even into their adulthood.

Survivors include her husband, Duane; children, Randall (Jill),  David (Roberta), Dean (Deborah), Ronald (Diane), Carolyn (David Ronneberg), Pamela (Scott) Howard, Cheryl (Kenneth) Norman, Gregory (Michelle); twenty-one grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby Westad; Brother, Rev. Oliver Olson and Wife Pat.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother-in-law, Lawrence Westad.

Carole was born June 22, 1936 in Richmond, MN to Ozita “Sid” (Blume) Ergen. 

She is survived by brothers and sister, Edward Ergen of Milwaukee, WI; Lowell Ergen of South Milwaukee, WI; Darlene Honer of Luxemburg, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, three brothers, Dickie Ergen, Howard Ergen, and Jim Ergen.

Rosemary was born in St. Cloud, MN to Raymond and Irene (Hommerding) Schlangen.  She enjoyed knitting, playing cards, dancing, fishing and giving away candy.  Most of all she loved her family.

Survivors include her mother, Irene; sisters, Donna Zierden, Julie (Dave) Nordvik; brothers, Patrick (Marlys), Ken (Laura), Allan (Suzanne), Dale (Janelle); in-laws, Sue Schlangen, Ben Witte and Jim Opatz.

She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond; brothers, Eldy and Vern; sisters, Bernadine and Sharon; and brother-in-law, Don Zierden.

Priscilla M. Klassen, age 92

August 9, 1923 – February 17, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2016 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Priscilla M. Klassen, age 92, who died Wednesday at the St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by her family.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m., Sunday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond.  Parish Prayers will be at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday morning from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Priscilla was born in St. Martin to Peter and Alma (Schoenborn) Loecken.  She married Norbert Klassen on June 12, 1945 in St. Martin Catholic Church.  Priscilla will always be remembered for her special roast beef, canned pickles, pumpkin & pecan pies, and many, many Christmas cookies!  She looked forward to Christmas all year and Christmas shopping for her family.  She also enjoyed bingo, winning at cards, fishing, sewing, and puzzles.  In her later years in life she got to enjoy the love of her grandkids and great- grandkids.  One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with her family.  Priscilla always knew she was going to win the big jackpot and she finally did… She is now in Heaven with the Lord and enjoying all the riches in the world.  “We love you Mom!”

Kathleen M. Meyer, age 84
Richmond
October 31, 1931 – February 23, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 29, 2016 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Kathleen M. Meyer, age 84, who died Tuesday at Country Manor in Sartell.  Burial will be the MN State Veterans Cemetery Little Falls.

Kathy was born on October 31, 1931 to William and Mary (Bronder) Janikula in Watertown, MN.  She lived on the farm working the fields and milking cows.  Kathy attended the country school until she went to high school at Watertown Minnesota graduating in 1950.  She then boarded a bus went to Minneapolis and got a job at the IDS Tower and began working her career as a secretary. 

Kathy met Linus Meyer and they were married April 24, 1954 at Immaculate Conception Church in Watertown.  The next year they started their family.  After the first two kids Kathy and Linus purchased a house in Columbia Heights, MN.  In 1964 they moved to Princeton, MN.  There Kathy continued her life as a homemaker.  When her children were all in school she started working at Fingerhut, sewing.  Kathy then worked at Montgomery Ward’s Catalog Store in town.  In 1979 they purchased a Resort in Richmond, MN, Oak Knoll on Hwy 22.  Soon after Kathy started working at Target in St. Cloud.  She retired from Target in 1997, enjoying retirement and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Joan (Paul) Cole, Debra (Frank) Gertken, Scott Meyer, Terry (Nancy Johnson); 8 grandchildren, Jason, Nate, Vance, Ashley, Lyle, Rudy, Jeremey, Kelsey; 2 great-grandchildren, Skyla and Leah.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Linus; parents; daughter-in-law, Nancie Meyer and sister, Bernice Mattson.

Nathalie M. “Lee” Carlson, 83

Nathalie M. “Lee” Carlson, age 83, of Cold Spring, died peacefully Monday, February 22, 2016 at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta, MN. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Abounding Joy Lutheran Church, St. Cloud. Visitation will take place from 4:00-7:30 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2016 at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud and 1 hour prior to the service Saturday at church.

Lee was born on the shores of Sand Lake in Scandia, Minnesota on April 26, 1932, to Nathan & Selma (Olson) Lindgren, the great granddaughter of Johannes & Anna Christina (Mattson) Lindgren, granddaughter of Franklin & Martha Lindgren. She was baptized on June 6, 1932 at Elim Lutheran Church in Scandia, MN and confirmed her faith on June 7, 1947 at Elim Lutheran Church in Scandia, MN.

She was a humble servant of the Lord that grew up on the family farm, second of four children. She loved and had an affinity for animals and lakes, and strove to keep them in her life. She learned her domestic skills from her mother, but spent most of her time helping her father with the farm work. She was known for being able to drive/handle all of the Belgian draft horses they had on the farm and could guide them by voice. She often rode her Belgian horse, Babe, to school and activities.

She met the love of her life, Bennie "Doc" Oliver Carlson, veterinarian and friend of her older brother Harvey, and married him on June 6, 1953 at Elim Lutheran Church in Scandia, MN.  They had almost 63 wonderful years together with Lee being homemaker, office manager, and surgical nurse for his veterinary practice in Stewart, MN where they made their home and raised their family for 26 years.  They made many lifelong friends there at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the SnoGoer's snowmobile club, and bowling before moving to Cold Spring, MN where they resided except for a 6 year hiatus in Lawrence, Kansas while Doc worked for the USDA. They loved to bowl, hunt, and vacation together, in particular to see lighthouses, along with supporting the MN Vikings and MN Twins teams.

She attended Hay Lake School, a one room school house in Scandia, MN (now a museum) through eighth grade and then attended and graduated from Forest Lake High School in Forest Lake, MN in 1950.  She worked as a mother's helper in Scandia and a nurses aide in Forest Lake Hospital while in school. She went to college/nurses training at Gustavus Adolphus College in St Peter, MN and at Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul, MN where she made many lifelong friends. She received her RN degree in 1953.  Over the years that she worked as an RN, she worked at St. Luke's Hospital, Hutchinson Community Hospital, Litchfield Community Hospital, Paynesville Community Hospital, and a hospital in Lawrence, Kansas. She worked in most areas of nursing, from surgical nurse to cardiac intensive care nurse on the tough night shift before retiring in 1996 after 43 years.

Lee was an active founding member of Abounding Joy Lutheran Church in St Cloud, MN, which she and Ben helped grow. She enjoyed, and was quite good at, sewing, knitting, crocheting, organizing, reading, bread baking, softball, bird watching (especially cardinals), snowmobiling, deer & bear hunting.  She enjoyed watching figure skating and gymnastics along with football. She was active in many churches and clubs over the years, quilting and making prayer shawls right up until her diagnosis of cancer a few months ago. She lived a full and active life, and thanked God daily.

She was a lifelong partner, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and caregiver for others.  She is survived and will be deeply missed by her husband, Bennie  “Doc” of Cold Spring, MN; children, Christine (Ray) Dosdall of Columbia Heights, MN, Lynda Lee Peterson of Princeton, MN, and Kenneth Bennie Carlson of Rockford, IL; 3 Grandchildren, Sara Peterson, Adam (Maddie) Peterson, Jocelyn "JoJo" (Will) Mager and 4 great grandchildren, Nic Peterson, Joy Peterson, Wyatte Mager, & Jazzmynn Mager who all loved her dearly; her She is also survived by her younger twin siblings Diane Chester and Dean Lindgren, and her in-laws, Marion Segelstrom, John & Linda Carlson, and Jan Lindgren. She is preceded in death by her parents; older brother, Harvey Lindgren and brother-in-law, Harvey Carlson.

Curtis A. Steil, age 58

July 20, 1957 – February 19, 2016

A Celebration of Life will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 27, 2016 at River of Life Assembly of God for Curtis A. Steil, age 58, who died Friday in Altamonte Springs, FL after a battle with cancer.
 
Visitation will be from 4 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring, and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.
 
Curt was born in St. Cloud, MN to Ralph and Delores (Johannes) Steil.  He married Debra Willemsen on August 15, 1981.  Curt and Debby establish C&D Granite in a one stall garage in Richmond in 1994.  From there it moved to St. Nicholas and eventually to the current location in the Industrial Park in Richmond.  Curt and his daughter, Amanda were co-franchisee’s of two 7-Eleven stores in Fort Myers, FL.  He loved fishing, hunting, Florida Beaches, a good hamburger, his motorcycle, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Debby; children, Brad (Lisa), Amanda, Lacey (Fiancé, James Noel); brothers, Duane (Judy), Tom (Carol)  and Bill; grandchildren, Janessa, Merissa, Jacob and Emma.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rich and Nephew, Andrew Steil.

Genevieve “Gen” Holstad age 92

Genevieve was born in Farming, MN to Peter and Bernadinah Theis.  She married Helge Holstad on August 23, 1949 in St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Farming, MN.  Gen loved fishing, baking, gardening, canning and visiting with friends and family.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary (Chuck) Spoden, Donna Tummel; son, Jerry Holstad; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose Bittner and Bernie Thelen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Helge; infant daughter, Linda; son, James; great-grandson, Devon Tummel; brothers, Jerome and Joe; sisters; Rita Schmidt and Loretta Kiess.

Harold James Krueger, “The Jolly Woodchopper”

Harold James Krueger, “The Jolly Woodchopper”, age 85, of rural Winsted passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Glencoe Long Term Care.

He was born on June 13, 1930 in Marty, Minnesota, the son of Edward and Justina (Quast) Krueger. On December 1, 1951, Harold Krueger and Joanne Robling were joined in holy marriage in Victoria. God blessed their marriage with seven children. Joanne and Harold engaged in dairy farming in Winsted Township, McLeod County for many years.

Harold played the accordion for many years, being in many bands throughout the state of Minnesota. He played at Sponsels Apple Orchard in Jordan, Minnesota for 20 years; and at many nursing homes throughout Minnesota. He also played in the surrounding states and in Branson, Missouri.

He enjoyed his farm, playing the accordion, time spent at the coffee shop, and joking with people. He was handy with tools and could repair anything, and he enjoyed welding. His life motto was, “Live and let live.”

Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joanne Krueger; and foster brother, Alfred Spicer. He was there and held his father at his passing in 1960, and he held his wife as she passed away in 2012. After his father’s passing, Harold took his mother in and cared for her until her passing in 1993.

He is survived by his seven children, Richard Krueger of Winsted, Mary Krueger of Silver Lake, LuAnn (Stanford) Hanson of Silver Lake, Monica Krueger of Winsted, Roy (Jane) Krueger of Waverly, Randall Krueger of Winsted and Reginald (Debbie) Krueger of Watertown; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Harold Krueger will be held on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
Interment Holy Trinity Cemetery in Winsted.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 4 to 8 P.M. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A Parish Prayer service will be held at 7:30 P.M.

Douglas Michael Schurman, age 40
Centerton, AR formerly Cold Spring, MN
October 25, 1975 – February 13, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 19, 2016 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Douglas Schurman, age 40, who died February 13, 2016 at Northwest Medical Center of Bentonville, Arkansas of a hereditary blood disorder which caused a cardiac arrest.  Burial will be in the St. Boniface Parish Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 18, 2016 from 4 – 8 p.m. and Friday beginning at 9 a.m. in the St. Boniface Catholic Church Narthex.  Arrangements are with Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring.

Douglas Michael Schurman was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota, Stearns County, to Dale and  Lynn (Loehlein) Schurman on October 25, 1975.  He married Pamela Jane Svec Punt on May 27, 2012 in Duluth, Minnesota.

Doug was a happy and joyful husband and father who lived every day to the fullest with a smile on his face.  His enthusiasm for life was contagious to all of those around him.  He loved spending time with his family enjoying the outdoors, finding new playgrounds and paths, reading books, playing Legos, and watching movies and sports – especially football.  He enjoyed cheering on his Minnesota Vikings.  And more than anything, Doug cheered on so many people in life with his encouragement and selflessness, including his children and step-children whom he loved deeply, supported and cared for their every need.

Doug worked for Best Buy Co., Inc. as an Intranet Systems Manager for nearly seven years.  He graduated from ROCORI High School in 1994 and the University of Minnesota – Duluth with a BS in Computer Science.  In April 2015, the family relocated from Shakopee, Minnesota to Centerton, Arkansas in support of his wife’s career and he continued on with Best Buy, working remotely.

Survivors include his wife Pamela; children Wyatt Knoll (age 3), Emma Claire (age 2), and Owen Doyle (age 2) of Centerton, Arkansas; step-children Kyle Hayden Punt (age 19) and Brynn Adriana Punt (age 11) of Shakopee; parents Dale and Lynn Schurman of Cold Spring; sister Andria (Steve Zaborowski) Schurman of Cold Spring, brother Mark (Maria) Schurman of Cope, South Carolina; and step-grandmother, Kathy Loehlein of Cold Spring.

Preceded in death by his grandparents, Lloyd and Ann Loehlein, and Melvin and Florence Schurman.

Judith M. Merdan Koska

October 26, 1942 - Feburary. 10, 2016

Judith M. Merdan Koska peacefully passed away of a brain tumor at her home in Nisswa, Minn. Feb. 10, 2016.  Judith was born Oct. 26, 1942 on a farm two miles west of Collegeville St. Johns in Stearns County, Minn.

She Married Ed Koska July 11, 1964 and lived near Cold Spring, Minn. until May of 1992, they then moved to the Brainerd area on Lake Margaret.  She worked at the quarter deck restaurant on Gull Lake then at Schaffer's Grocery Store in the deli dept. in Nisswa until she retired. They then moved to Nisswa from 2008 to the present.

Judy loved to work in her garden, planting flowers and vegetables and she also loved fishing with her husband. 

Judy will be dearly missed by her many friends and family in Nisswa and Cold Spring. 

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ed; their son Don Koska and his wife, Annette; granddaughter, Sofie;  their son-in-law, Mike Bolei and grandsons, Jake and Jesse, whose mother, Linda Bolei proceeded Judy in death on Dec. 26, 2011.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 16, from 5-7 p.m. at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Nisswa with a prayer service at 6:30.  Visitation will continue the hour before services at the church on Wednesday.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb 17, at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Nisswa with Father Mike Petullo officiating.  Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring, MN for Mary Lee Kammermeier, age 65, who died Saturday at Bethany Home in Cold Spring.  Inurnment will be in the St. Boniface Parish Cemetery.

Mary Lee was born in Cold Spring to Albert and Cyrilla (Wedel) Kammermeier.  She loved puzzles, board games and working for WACOSA for many years.  Mary Lee loved to go to Valley Fair and the time she went to Disneyland.

Survivors include her siblings, Lila (Dick) Bernick, Wally Kammermeier, and Cy (Mary Ann) Kammermeier; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother Charles; brothers, Lloyd, Hugh, and Roger.

Dolores was born in Richmond to Frank and Cecelia (Kammers) Statz.  She married Oswald M. Schmitz on September 9, 1947 in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond.  Dolores was a homemaker all her life.  She loved gardening, quilting, sewing, coloring, playing cards, country music and needle work.  Above all she loved her family.  Dolores was a member of St. Boniface Christian Women and Catholic Order of Foresters #633.

Survivors include her loving husband of 68 years, Oswald; children, John (Mary), Jim (Debbie), Ken (Sharon), Janet (Dave) Jensen, Denis (Jean), and Mike; sister, Delphine Statz; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Margaret; brothers, Nicholas and Joseph Statz; and great-grandson, Dylan.

Elmer J. Eisenschenk, age 84

Elmer was born in Collegeville Township to Peter and Frances (Weyland) Eisenschenk.  He married Donna Feneis on June 6, 1951 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Luxemburg.  Elmer was a lifelong farmer and an 18 year employee of Cold Spring Granite.  He enjoyed ball games, traveling, and going to casinos.  He was a member of St. Joseph Society, Catholic Order of Foresters and St. Boniface Parish.  He most of all enjoyed his time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; children, Mari (Cecil) Louis, Michael (Sue), Tom (Marilyn), Mark (Jan Hommerding), John (Mary), Doris, Paul (Joan), Kevin (Christine), and Julie; sisters, Carol (Mike) McGuire, and Dolores (Steve) Menge; nephew, Russell Buyse; in-laws, Joe Feneis, and Virginia Feneis; 25 grandchildren; and 11 great-granchildren with 2 on the way.

Bernelda Kuhl, age 92

Bernelda was born in St. Martin, MN to Peter and Tecla (Gertken) Noll.  She married Odo L. Kuhl on June 29, 1948 in St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin.  Bernelda worked in housekeeping at Assumption Nursing Home for 20 years.  She enjoyed playing cards, running the roads, socializing, gardening, singing songs with her family and good entertainment.  Bernelda was a member of Oblates of St. Benedict, Christian Women, Legion of Mary, Prayer Line, Catholic United Financial and St. Boniface Parish.

Survivors include her children, Judi Mertens, Mari Kuhl, Linda (Don) Warner, Ronald (Shannon) Kuhl; sister, Dolores (Delbert) Petermeier; sisters-in-law, Van Noll, Jeanette Toenies, Julie Noll, Sr. Rita Kuhl OSF; brother-in-law, Matthew (Sharon) Kuhl; grandchildren, Tracy, Terry, Brian and Susan; great-grandchildren, AJ, Hannah, Matthew, Emmet and Mackenzie.

Betty was born to Alfred and Gertrude (Grunloh) Meyer.  Being the oldest of 10, started her journey thru life being a wonderful, caring, nurturing person that we all loved.  She married Earl R. Danzeisen on October 17, 1949 in St. Boniface Catholic Church.  Betty’s life revolved around her family.  She was the heart of our family, cherishing each of us.  Her nurturing spirit never dimmed even as her memory slipped away.  Betty was a member of St. Boniface Parish and Christian Women.

Survivors include her husband, Earl; children, Lloyd (Marnie Fischer), Karen (Dave) Dingmann, Mark (Limei), Lori (Jon) Habben, Eric (Melissa); siblings, Norm (Rose), Ed (Mary Lou), Donald, Louis (Paula), Ione Thelen, Carol Ley, Susie (Gene) Kramer; sister-in-law, Roberta Meyer; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Nancy Proell; brothers, Jerome and Richard; brothers-in-law, Ron Thelen and Richard Ley.

William V. Rausch, age 82
Cold Spring
July 19, 1933 – January 28, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 5, 2016 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for William V. Rausch, age 82, who died Thursday at Assumption Home in Cold Spring.  Interment will be in the MN State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be 2 hours prior to mass in the St. Boniface Church Narthex.  Arrangements are with Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring, MN.

Bill was born in Cold Spring, MN to William B. and Ermalinda T. (Meinz) Rausch.  As a young man growing up in Cold Spring, he acquired a nickname and throughout his life, he was commonly referred by friends and family as “Pont”.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 – 1955.  Bill attended St. Cloud State University, St. Johns University and the University of North Dakota, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Physics.  Most of his life, he worked as an Engineer or Systems Analyst.  Throughout the years, he enjoyed golfing, hunting with his childhood buddies, gardening, photography, and gatherings with friends and family.  Bill was an active member and for many years the Adjutant for the American Legion, Post 455.  He had a special appreciation for birds and wildlife and always displayed heartfelt compassion and contributed financial support for those in the world who were less fortunate.

Survivors include his loving companion of 15 years, Betty Larson of Cold Spring; children, Mary J. Rausch of Bloomington, MN and Julie M. Severson of San Diego, CA; 2 grandchildren, William and Halle Severson of San Diego, CA; siblings, Alvin, Joan (Hentges), Donald, Bernice (Neuer), Lewis, Phyllis (Eccles), Roger and David; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Fran.

Angeline Mae (Jost) Jahns, age 92

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud, MN for Angeline Mae Jahns, age 92, who died Wednesday at the Sterling Park Nursing Home.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in St. Cloud, MN.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to mass at the church.

Angie was born in St. Cloud to Peter and Anna (Watry) Jost.  She married Carl Jahns on April 10, 1943 in Orlando, FL.

She is survived by sisters, Hilda Kortman, Palo Alto, CA., and Dee Simons, Soiux Falls, SD; brother, Norbert Jost Sr., St. Cloud, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl (1988); brothers, Leo Jost, Raymond Jost, and Luverne Jost.

Marcella “Sally” Maile, age 96

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Marcella “Sally” Maile, age 96, who died Sunday at the Assumption Nursing Home.  Burial will be in the Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud.  Visitation will begin 2 hours prior to the mass in the Church Narthex.

Sally was born in Luxemburg to John and Anna (Dockendorf) Theisen.  She was united in marriage to Arnold Maile on January 31, 1942 in Cold Spring, MN.  They farmed in Holdingford for 11 years and moved to St. Cloud.  While raising her children Sally was employed by Fingerhut retiring in 1982.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #455 in Cold Spring and St. Boniface Christian Women.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann (Dick) Fruth, and Donna (Marlin) Langner; son, Dennis (Susan) Maile; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and brother, Alvin (Carol).

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold; son, Duane; daughter, Jan; siblings, Mark, Leander, Loretta, Sylvester, and Irene.

The family would like to thank Assumption Nursing Home and Heartland Hospice for the kindness and care shown to our mother, Sally.

John Francis Hoffmann Jr., age 87
Rockville
April 20, 1928 – January 14, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Rockville, MN for John Francis Hoffmann Jr., age 87, who died Wednesday at his home.  Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Rockville.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, Rockville.  Visitation will continue Thursday morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Church.

John was born on the family farm in St. Joseph Township to John Sr. and Clara (Roden) Hoffmann.  He married Martha Lintgen on June 10, 1950 in Mayhew Lake, MN.  He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. Above all things family and faith were very important to John.  He enjoyed farming, playing cards, reading, bowling, hunting and fishing.  John was the accordion player for the Bobby Roberts Band for over 50 years and continued to play at local nursing homes.  He and Jack Schuh played together and became known as the “Music Men.”  John was a member of Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus, former parish council member and a member of the church choir.

Survivors include his children, Dennis (Sue) of Cold Spring, Sue (Mark) Schneider of St. Cloud, Gary of St. Cloud, Karen (Rob) Mapes of Waite Park and Mark of St. Cloud; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Agnes Hoffmann, Helen Hoffmann, Marian Janssen, and Donna Poganski.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha (2011); 3 infant grandchildren, Amelia Rose, Angela Marie, Matthew Michael Hoffmann; infant brother, Patrick; infant sister, Rose; brothers, David and George.

Richard H. Dingmann, age 88
Rockville
May 24, 1927 – January 12, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Rockville, MN for Richard H. Dingmann, age 88, who died Tuesday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Rockville.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday and from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.  Parish Prayers will be at 4:00 p.m.  The Rockville Fire Department and Knights of Columbus will pray at 8:00 p.m.  

Richard was born in Farming, MN to Norbert & Josephine (Holthaus) Dingmann. He married Marie Massmann on October 7, 1953 in Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, Rockville MN.  Richard served in Korea from 1950 – 1952 where he was awarded the Purple Heart.  He worked at Nash Finch Company for 37 years, after retiring he drove for the Richmond Bus Service for 9 years.  Richard loved old time dancing, singing, fishing, hunting, men’s coffee clutches, his garden tractor and his pickup truck.  Above all he loved his family.  Richard served as an usher and as a member of the choir in the Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church.  He was a former member of the Rockville City Council and served as Mayor.  Richard was a member of the Cold Spring American Legions, Korean Last Man’s Club, Knights of Columbus and was a past Grand Knight, Rockville Fire Department for 22 years, and was a charter member of the Rockville Lions Club in which he received the Melvin Jones Award.

Survivors include his wife, Marie; children, Vera (Dennis) Ebensteiner of Rockville, Sharon (Bob) Froehling of Rockville, Brenda (Alan) Fuchs of St. Cloud, Randy (Brenda) of Rockville, Bonnie (Greg) Hopke of St. Augusta; grandchildren, Sarah (Jerad) Marsh, Rachael (Ben) VonBank, Tony, Rich (Lauren), Brianna Ebensteiner, Heather & Matthew Froehling, Mary & Jessie Dingmann, Grant & Lauren Hopke; great-grandchildren, Bo, Meg, & Mac Marsh, Jack & Reggie VonBank, Riley Ebensteiner; sister, Marie (Jerry) Erkens; sisters-in-law, Dorothy & Tina Dingmann.

Edward “Ed” Fink, age 85

Ed was born in Cold Spring, MN to Michael & Albina (Muggli) Fink.  He married Celina Mueller on July 19, 1955 in St. James Catholic Church in Jacobs Prairie.  Ed served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He worked for Cold Spring Granite Company for 43 years.  After retirement Ed enjoyed working with his son, Ron in his cabinet shop.  Ed had a special love for dogs and was never without one.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and being with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Celina; son Ron (Diane) Fink; brother, Richard (Viola) Fink; grandchildren, Ryan and Kaitlyn Fink.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Marie Spoden, Margaret Cooper, Delrose Ewan, and Isabel Kelly.

Nancy Rose LaPlant
Robbinsdale, Minnesota
April 20, 1941 - Friday, January 8, 2016

Nancy Rose LaPlant, born April 20, 1941 in St. Cloud, Minnesota, the daughter of Virgil Leo and Marie Elizabeth (Bruner) Hesse; passed away Friday, January 8, 2016 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota.

Nancy was a graduate of St. Boniface High School in Cold Spring, Minnesota. In high school, Nancy was crowned posture queen, and she won a blue ribbon for a dress she had made. Nancy was confirmed in her faith at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, Minnesota.

On August 11, 1969 Nancy Rose Hesse and Mark Steven LaPlant were joined in holy marriage by the Reverend Bernard E. Yetzer. The two were blessed with four children.

Nancy enjoyed art, applying makeup, and fixing hair.

Preceded in death by her father, Virgil Hesse; infant sibling, Francis Hesse; brother-in-law, Stanley LaPlant; and sisters-in-law, Marlys (Donald) Barbeau and Lois (Delano) Price.

Survived by her mother, Marie Hesse; husband, Mark LaPlant; children, Colleen (Terry) Milford, Mark Vogelsang, Virgil LaPlant, Raymond (Becky) Bauernfeind; siblings, Marion (Ronald) Rose, JoAnn (Tom) Vouk, Cathy (Tom) Plantenberg, Virgil (Deb) Hesse; siblings-in-law, Joan Raisanen, Yvonne Degrar, Kay Bastin, Basil LaPlant; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Theresa A. Spaeth, age 78
Aitkin formerly of the Wilkins Lake area
September 23, 1937 - January 1, 2016

Theresa A. Spaeth passed away peacefully Friday, January 1, 2016 at the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin.

Theresa was born September 23, 1937 at Eden Valley, Minnesota the daughter of Andrew and Emma (Johnson) Schoenecker. On June 21, 1958 she married Norbert Spaeth at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley. The couple moved to the Blaine/Ham Lake area where they raised their family. They retired to Wilkins Lake in the Aitkin area in 1994 where they enjoyed the outdoor life with family and friends. Theresa enjoyed being a homemaker and the great outdoors, camping, fishing, hosting family and friends and an occasional visit to the casino. In 2014 they sold their lake home and moved into Aitkin.

Theresa is survived by her husband: Norbert of Aicota Care Center in Aitkin; children: Dean of East Bethel, Mn.; Brenda (Jason) Lindquist of Andover, Mn. with grandson Cody; and Sandy Spaeth of Duluth. Also surviving is brother: Robert (Frances) Schoenecker of Eden Valley, Mn.; sisters: Betty (Erv) Frei of Burnsville, MN.; Lois (LeRoy) Polzin of Brownton, Arlene (Dick) LaHoud) of Burnsville. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Jerome and David and sisters: Kathleen Becker, Rose Ann Lauer and Jeanie Meyer.

A memorial mass will be held Friday, January 8, 2016 at 10:30 AM from St. James Catholic Church (299 Red Oak Drive) in Aitkin with Fr. George Zeck officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the time of service at the church. Burial will be in the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley, Minnesota.
